My puppy did that, my vet said dogs eat their own poo when nutrients are missing. Are you feeding your dog regular dog food or people food?

My little dog had a proplem with this. it's called something like coprophagia. It has a little bit to do with not picking up the dog poo but is a more deeply rooted issure like anxiety, seeking attention, meal sustinance or submisivenes. Are you too loud with your dominance? is your dog small? Sometimes if your dog is small, loudness scares them because seeing you TOWER over them is dominant enough and loudness can make it worse. Dominance is a very tricky thing. With larege dogs, standing over them and using a loud/firm voice does very well, but small dogs are already dominated just by your size alone. So to stay dominant, be consitant with commands, training/positive reinforcement and enforcing rules, just don't let them stand on your back, that is them dominating you. If it is attention the dog seeks, ignoring them is a good way of breaking the problem because they are not getting what they are seeking. This tactic is also very good with submisive urination. Now, training is a GREAT way to help your dog overcome coprophagia and any other submisive charateristics like submissive urination. Training allows a dog to know what is expected of him/her. Let them lick the treat while you are holding it and praise them good boy/girl then start training them. This will give them confidance and you will notice a big differance in your dogs behavior within a week. Keep in mind that training and breaking takes time. At first you won't feel like your getting any progress but just keep consistant and your will notice it all of a sudden. Be sure to use small training reward treats. a treat should never be more than 10% of a dogs daily intake so the small treats are best so you can do more without over feeding them.

No, there's nothing you can do. Always look at the behaviour of dogs in the wild to get some idea of how to solve problems. In the wild, dogs are natural scavengers. They were domesticated thousands of years ago in order to clean up after humans; they are garbage bins with names. They will eat anything that is not moving and will try to make moving things stop so they can eat them.

You just have to pick up after her every day.

There are some tablets you can feed your dog ( not sure if you can get them in a pet store but I imagine you can) and it makes the poop smell and taste foul so they will stop eating it. I dont know if this works for certain, I dont have that problem with my dog.

There is a product you can buy called FORBID to put on the food. Some people say it works.

The other thing you can try is feeding her rabbit pellets (food) mixed in with her own. Apparently this makes it taste so bad the dog won't touch it.

One of my dogs does the same thing. It's not because he's deficient in any nutrient, I just think he likes the taste. Either way, find a type of food that you know he doesn't like (in my case he hates tabasco) and then sprinkle it on the feces. That keeps my dog away and after awhile they become conditioned to think that it will always be like that. You have to be diligent, though. If you miss one then he'll know not all feces tastes bad and he'll keep trying to eat it.

I have found that sprinkling their food with garlic powder prevents them from eating their poop. I don't know what it is, but they love the garlic powder going in but not so much after it comes out. It's also a pretty cheap remedy! Be cautious that you don't use garlic salt...make sure it's powder.

Just be sure to eat it before she can get to it. Also make sure to show her you are the dominant one or she'll fight you for it.
