You have to let go and trust them to a certain extent, whatever age they are at.....this is how they learn. You are obviously their guide in what ever they do, but it is up to them to decide what path they want to take. If you know that they will be making wrong decisions, all you can do is talk to them, and hope that they will listen to you. If they are young enough, you could try grounding them or a punishment of some sort, for their own protection. Having said this though, you cant wrap them in cotton wool, sometimes they have to learn the hard way. If they are older teenagers, you may have to let them do what they want, and trust that they will make good decisions in life. Dont try and control too much as this can be counter productive, and they may rebel against anything you do or say. Just advise and lead by example.

It depends on what the decision they are making is. Teenagers are inexperienced so they will make mistakes in their lives.
If it is going to be a small mistake, then let it go. Let them make the decision and they will learn from their mistakes. People never learn from wrong to right if they can't make mistakes. We all learn from mistakes, not from success. That's life. Have you ever tried asking yourself, how did I got wiser from teenage life through now? Experience, right? So if you want teenagers to be sucessful in life, let them learn from their mistakes. A word for parents is to always guide them with as much help as possible. Don't intervene until it is a very bad mistake that will cause a burden in their life or hurt or kill them.

You need to let go - if they don't make the wrong decisions they will never learn from them. You have become the person you are today for all the decisions you have made, whether they were wrong or right, you brought the lesson with you. They need to stumble, fall and scrape their knees in order to learn to pick themselves back up and know that you will be there if they need you. But if you do not let them go then you are enabling them to make good judgement decisions.

First you have to know your teen very well, If you have had the time to talk to your child about how important making decisions is, and you trust yourself on how you have guided him/her, than he/she deserves a chance.
Besides, how do you know for sure he/she would make the wrong decisions if you have not given him/her the chance? Is your teen a recuring wrong decisions maker?. If that is the case, than don't let go untill you feel he/she can prove to you he/she is capable of having good judgement as far as making decisions is concern.
Good luck!!

The P.C answer is to say you have to let them make their own mistakes in life.
However that's just a cop out for bad or lazy parents. You are the adult here and as such are supposed to be older and wiser. What is the point of gaining life experience and then letting touchy, feely convention stop you from passing that on to the benefit of the children you claim to love.
If you know they're are embarking on something that can only bring them pain or harm. Don't opt to do nothing about it, that's the cowards way out.

All you can do is raise your children the best you know how. What they do in life with the knowledge and good moral you have instilled in them is their own decisions. Think when you were young I'd bet you made some wrong decisions but you live and learn. Let it be and it will work out thats life.

If you don't allow then to use their own judgment, and face the consequences, how will they learn. You can't always be there to fix things and stop them from making the wrong decision. Its very hard to let go as they grow up. But have faith in your ability to raise well rounded children....and they will be fine. Let them know if they need your help or have a question..then you are there.

Having raised 6 children. Do not trust teenagers out of your sight. Do not allow them to date until they are out of high school. Know where they are at at all times. Everyonce in a while when they tell you they are some where go check to make sure they are where they told you they were going to be. I wish we had the old traditions that single women in the family always had a chaperon until they married. Good Idea. What is dummer than one teenager----two teenagers.

you try to give them the knowledge they need to make sound decisions ahead of time, while you are raising them. teens are bound to make mistakes, it is not going to get any easier. sometimes you have to let go, trust yourself and the information you have raised them with and let them learn a little about life.
Hopefully they will not make choices that harm them, but if they do... you need to be there to help them overcome problems and provide more guidance and support.

There comes a time in all of our lives that we have to let go,,,,,,, we learn by our mistakes,,, but that helps us grow,,,, I feel sure my parents felt the same way,, if you don't trust your kids who will. As long as you have talked and had open conversations with them, I feel sure some good has come from them.
