To darken hair the best way is to use shikakai, avla, coconut, lemon an the most important is to use curd and egg. You can also use thrice a week if you are a girl and if you are a boy you can use it 4 times a week or else natural oils on head. The yogic comment is to rub your nails to each other at least for 5min daily.

The one thing that I know about is hair and how to maintain it. I have natural dark hair but I have been going to a salon for six years getting highlights and other numerous this done to my hair. I is currently all blond.
To answer your question is to put mayonaise on your dark hair once a week for about one hour then wash it out. This add's more oil to your scalp and it will keep the folicals from opening up. You hair will darken up.

Indigo - natural dye that used to dye blue jeans.

Indigo does not dye your hair alone - dye your hair first with henna, then dye with indigo for the first time.

From the second time, you can mix henna with indigo to get the shade you like.

If you have very light hair colour, it may be difficult to dye your hair evenly (or need to dye repeatedly at first).

Indigo gives bluish dark black look - but the shades really depends on your natural hair colour, and the condition of your hair.

If you have non-permed/dyed, healthy hair, you should get a good result from the first try - if not, may take a few tries to get the shade you like.

Indigo fades away quickly than henna.

Do NOT use a clarifying shampoo. Use a heavy conditioner that is SPF rated. Many are. Keep your hair covered (put it up in a hat or scarf) when you go into the sunlight. Take good care of it! Dried out hair w/ split ends always looks lighter in color than it does when it is healthy, even though the colour itself has not changed.

it used to be henna (now in a package form) and tea.
I can't say that either or both are safe cause I don't know that they are. Years ago there used to be in a capsule some coloring and you'd put it into a glass of water and then pour it over your hair and dry it...it was supposed to contain natural stuff. Myself I just used red food coloring and got red highlights. My sister used lemons in the final wash and that lightened her hair a tad. I don't know what to tell you for dark hair.

My grandma and her sister used to use walnut hulls. I used to pick pecans and the green hulls would permanently color my hands so I think it probably works.

My mom, a beautician, said use lemon juice to lighten hair and cider vinegar to darken hair. The acid in both will close the cuticle on the hair shaft and makes hair shiney. I prefer Pantene.

One method not previously mentioned is walnut husks. If you know where a walnut tree is growing, collect a bucket of green nuts from the ground. Wearing rubber gloves, chop the green part away from the hard shell. Boil in a large pot for DARK brown dye. This is an old dye, from the middle ages, and is very durable. WHATEVER it touches turns brown.

The best way is using coconut oil before and after washing your hair. It's very simple. Based on my own experience, I was born with reddish hair and the only thing that my mother did is what I've said. Just do it and you will see the result. Goodluck
