PRESENT STALL IS APPROX 36X48 AND I have a 36x36 area in back of showeer to expand possibly put a seat in this area

You can't. The pan beneath the tile must be enlarged to fit your new size and the pan must be one piece to prevent leaks.

Sorry, but you can't. The pan has a membrane that should be continuous. Even if you try to tear out one row of tile to lap a new membrane over it, it will damage the existing membrane. The are a couple different products installers use for the membrane. And I don't think any of them would survive the attempt to extend the stall. Gut it and start from scratch.
