Last year, when my son turned 2, he was into Thomas the Tank Engine. He was happy with anything that was related to Thomas. Some other suggestions would be trucks (firetrucks, ambulances, construction trucks). If you want to go on the educational side I would suggest anything from Leap Frog. Does he know his ABC's or numbers yet? If not, Leap Frog has some good toys and DVD's out to help learn them. There is The Letter Factory by Leap Frog that is really good. It teaches children the phonics of each letter.
I hope this helped in some way! Good luck!

First ask the parents if there's anything he actually needs...ie...clothes etc.... Secondly how about a few special hours with you....a lunch out and a small gift purchased together? There are so many 'toys' that you can buy for 2 year old but truth is kids need very little....he wont remember what you got him for his birthday...he might possibly remember a special few hours with you...to a playpark, water park etc.... Just a suggestion! Unless he collects something...even then though....its his parents that have chosen that for him! A small bond is always a good idea.............depends on how much you want to spend??? Good luck

I would get him a $100 savings bond every year and put it in a safe deposit box. I did that for my niece and now I have 13 of them. They really don't know the concept of it right now but their going to love it when they turn 18.

Something good for any child under 5, regardless of gender, is a sandbox, with lid, of course. You can find the sand made specifically for children's sandboxes at Lowe's.

Something he can ride on. Big wheels bikes are cool. Little kids love to jam around on them cause it makes them feel like a big kid.

At that age they like the Tonka first trucks. Also, anything that they can learn with for their age level. Toy balls.
