Here is how it works. No one teaches the animal what to eat and what not to eat. He knows instinctively what to eat. Humans also have the same instinct. The way it works is just eat whatever tastes good and that will be healthy for you and non-fattening. That is why a baby tastes everything. So again whatever tastes good, is good for you. This is why you will spit out spoiled milk.
But wait!!! Man has the technology to create rat poison. It tastes like healthy food (good taste) but kills the rat. So man has done that to you. Note- any food unaltered by man (uncooked) that tastes good, is good for you. So if you are stranded in the woods, that is how you know what to eat (cooking changes that). So man has created fake fruit. It tastes like fruit that exists in nature but it is terrrible for health, addictive and fattening called sweets.
So it is natural to like real sweets called fruit, like a baby does, but they have fooled you just like the rat. But they do not want to kill you. They want you to become obese so you will buy lots of their foods. This is called GOOD BUSINESS. You do NOT want to use the Atkins Diet... You want to use the South Beach Diet... It is VERY similar to the Atkins diet, BUT you are allowed to ear GOOD CARBS... atkins is all for meat and cheese and eat as much as you want... Dr. Agatson is a cardiologist who came up with the South Beach Diet after seeing several patients who had been on the Atkins diets come in with Clogged Arteries, and heart disease...*( Due to eatting 6 steaks a day if you wanted too... )*
With the Atkins diet, the minute you ever start eatting Carbohydrates.. *( even the good ones )*, and we all know we're going to eat bread, a soda, pizza, or whatever else eventually, BOOM! you start gaining back your weight... I have seen 3 people on this diet, and they had all lost weight but within a year had gained it back plus some... However MY doctor, and his wife who is a Doctor, and sooo many other doctors and talk shows are now going for the south beach diet... You start on Phase 1 for 2 weeks then Phase 2 for 2 weeks then Phase 3 you try to live on the rest of your life *( which includes pretty much everything, just whole grains, whole wheat bread... )*... IF you gain a ton of weight after this you just start back on Phase 1... Phase 1 in 2 weeks people usually loose 8-13 pounds... on Phase 2, you loose about 1-3 pounds a week, and Phase 3 again u try to stay on the rest of your life...

You need to be aware of side effects such as reduced energy (initially), constipation, and headache. You also need to take vitamins while you're on this diet.
I recommend a different approach: A Ph balancing diet. Try this: mix lemon juice (preferably from 1 fresh lemon), maple syrup or honey, sea sault and water. One glass of this will supress your hunger for at least 30 minutes. In theory, you can survive just on this solution (without any hunger) for 40 days! I wouldn't go that far. You can try it for 3 days and you will loose a lot of weight. If that's too extreme, just replace 1 meal a day with the lemon drink. Good luck!

Only use Atkins if you plan on staying on it for life. The second you start eating carbs again you gain back what you lost plus some. If you really want to know its 20g carbs for the first two weeks. That is the induction phase. After that I don't remember but I have the book so I can look it up. Heck, you can HAVE the book.

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but you would be so much better off if you did the South Beach Diet instead. It's a much, much healthier diet. You can get copies of either book on eBay for not much money at all. If you want to check out both diets before you decide which one to go with, you can check them out from your library. Most libraries have inter library loans where they can get books that they don't have from larger libraries through the mail. I do that all the time. I did that before I purchased my own copy of South Beach. My library found it for me and I read it. Then I got my own copy from eBay for about $3. Good luck. I know weight is hard to lose. I'm really happy with South Beach.

you have to be careful on that diet. Cutting Carbs out of you diet is not safe. You could try cutting your calorie intake to 1500 calories per day. You will lose about two pounds per week. There are four weeks in a month, that's eight pounds a month you will lose just by cutting back on the amount of food you put in your mouth. Try exerciseing also. Take the baby around the block. The kid will love it and it's healthy

Don't use the atkins diet. It isn't good for you at all. The best way to lose weight is to reduce your calorie intake, increase the amount of exerciese, and cut out all the junk food which isn't giving your body any nutrients. Atkins can be bad cause it cuts out carbohydrates which your body still needs.

You have to watch your carbs , first 2 weeks you can only have 20 carbs a day, stay away from sugar and white foods (bread,rice,potatoes, ect..) Eat green veggies they have the least amount of carbs but you must eat veggies everyday 1 cup of veggies or salad with low carb dressing. You can eat all meats and cheeses and eggs. you need to drink 8 glasses of water a day and take a multi vitamin...
All you have to do is watch your carb intake by reading the labels on the food you buy...
I eat alot of tuna, hotdogs, cheese ,eggs, low carb tortilias, pickles, veggies and cooked meats ...

Forget the atkins diet or any other fad diet. It's simple.
EAT LESS AND EXERCISE MORE.
That's a diet you can maintain for life. Fad diets will never work lngterm because you'll get bored
