I cleaned them with alcohol, but I worry about contracting HIV or Hepatitis from new earrings that other people have tried on.

if you share something that has a potential for dried blood on it, yes.

i cannot believe a nurse would not think so.

things that are known as infectious are HIV, HBV, HCV....

if you borrow someones earrings and it has blood on it and you have an opened wound (infection of the earring hole) you can get a disease. Although the chances are probably low, it is possible and you should always follow through with cleansing and sterilizing anything you put in your earlobe, nose, tongue, belly button and all the other places you are pierced.

The answer simply put is YES you can get diseases this way.

There is always a risk with things that come in contact with blood or body fluids. Most people who have been trying earrings should of had their piercing healed already, because you are not supposed to take your earrings out for 6 weeks or something like that. If you are worried, soak the earrings in bleach or a chlorine solution. Make sure you rinse the chlorine off before you wear the earrings. Chlorine solutions kill HIV and Hepatitis viruses.

there is nothing to worry about. Viruses like that cannot live outside of a body for that long. If I remember correctly it's 72 hours is the longest that the viruses can live outside of a body. This is because they need the heat from the body. Unless the other people trying the earrings on had the hole just done there will not be any body fluid in the ear. If you are talking about other parts of the bady it depends on where the piercing is. If it is near a body part that has body fluids then you should stay away from the used earrings.

Anytime you have an open wound it is a risk for infection, period. Lets say you scrape your knee, if you do not clean the area, then you have a risk for getting an infection, period.

As far a rings go, you are free and clear from getting all viruses after it is disinfected, i.e. bleach solution. If a store doesn't clean the rings and you subsequently get an infection on your nose, you could sue the begeezus out of them, period. Not that you would want to, life just would not be the same if you had a viral infection, thats because its a chronic infection, period.

bleach DOES NOT kill HIV-piercers could just soak their tools in bleach instead of using an autoclave! you should never under any circumstances put jewlery into your body that has been worn by another person unless it is autoclaved (even then it's frowned upon). It is disgusting, would you wear another womans panties after they've been washed? (I wouldn't personally)Same logic. Most likely your not going to contract a disease but why take that risk, its inexcusable. If that jewelry has a tiny nick in it and you scrape the inside of your ear as you insert it...open wound and dried body matter coming into contact.

I would say don't buy the earrings! people can pass things on but i'm not sure about through earrings. thats a delicate area also. Most places don't allow people to try the earrings on anyway! i would be carefull if i were you!
