Repaint your room using a semigloss paint that will reflect more light . Paint a lighter color. Use lamps, mirrors will also reflect light put a lamp in front of your mirror. I think the light is the window would be great. Try some lighting in a tube and see how it looks before you invest a lot of money.

Yes, very light walls and furnishings will help a lot. Also, a huge mirror placed on the wall opposite your window will work wonders.
Or mirrors facing each other. Lights should be at various levels, from uplights placed right on the floor (behind plants), to table lamps, to warm tube lights placed under or behind your curtains' pelmets.

I would change the lighting in the room. First paint the room white, beige or a light yellow. These colors will help some. Use a more effecent bulb. One that saves energy and produces more light. You may want to put silver holders behind the light to direct it a little better.

I would focus on more lamps. I have a Tiffany pole lamp where the light shines up and fills the room with lots of light. And that is using just one lamp. So if your room is big, use a couple of these.

One option would be to increase the natural lighting. The amount of light the solar tubes bring in are amazing! My husband's office at work has them and I am always amazed at the brightness of the office, without electric lighting.
They can be found at Lowe's to install yourself.
Here are a couple of websites with more information:

Mirrors. Light painted walls. Light coloured pictures. Think how photographers would do it. Any thing that reflects.
