As a Christian, I get along well with almost everyone and I have respect for those who have different beliefs than I do.

Not to pick on either side here but when was the last time you were at the airport and had an atheist come up to you and ask you to convert? Or sitting at home eatting dinner and have the door bell ring, did you ever think; its those damn atheists again trying to push their beliefs down my throat? Yet christians believe that they must do this to "save" you. Well gosh darn it I dont want to be "saved" by anyone that feels they must go door to door or hang out in mobs telling others what to believe or telling them that if they dont they will be sentenced to eternal damnation. What if for some "god forsaken" reason I dont believe in a single all powerful entity yet a multitude of spiritual beings that influence us in different ways throughout our day to day lives. What if I believe that there is no "heaven" or "hell"? Why cant I believe in reincarnation? Why cant I believe that when I die I continue on in some non corpreal form and haunt the christians for tormenting the hell out of me during my corpreal existance? I would rather be reincarnated as a slug than sit and listen to some old fart tell me that Im going to hell because he was told so by someone else who was told by someone else and so on...

As long as one or the other uses the coercive power of the state (with the guns to back them) to impose their values on the other, there will never be complete tolerance.
When Christians vote for war, why should I respect them? Yes a vote for Bush was a vote for war. And if you don't realize that, you are too out of touch to respect.
When abortions are subsidized by the state and everyone -- including those who personally view it as an abomination -- are forced to pay for them through their taxes -- why should pro-lifers not be angry?
Btw, I am pro-choice but I think subsidized abortion is wrong.
These are just a couple of examples. People of all creeds need to understand the consequences of their policies on others.

By the very nature of Christian belief one will never get away from witnessing. If one can't get away from that then one will always have some type of conflict. Even when spoken in perfect love someone will be offended by the gospel. It is writtent that as Christ had enemies so will his followers. So, I accept the that I will have enemies. I am in no way interested in fights though. However, I have a job given to me by a Holy God and that is what i will do. I answer to Him not you. Because the only way to "get along" is for Christians not to witness. That is the problem atheists have with Chrsitians. So, I guess "getting along" will never happen as long as the two co-exist.

We can (could).
As I've said many times: this is a Q&A forum not a fight - you go here to get other peoples' opinions.
I'm an atheist, if you are - great, if you're religious - great.
Live and let live!
Things have a tendancy to get mean here very quickly - I think Yahoo should have a 'Fight and Complain' room. The fools can go there and leave the rest of alone!

First of all we are not Atheists, we are free thinkers. Atheist is a name that the religious people have labeled us, just like they have labeled people who believe that the government does not have a right to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body baby killers or murderers. It is nothing more than derogatory name calling.
If the Christians would stop pushing through theocratic laws that violate our rights and freedoms we free thinkers would not be offended by their delusions.

Its not always a life choice...some of us are brought up within an organised religion and choose to withdraw or change. Some take up beliefs after deep and meaningful reasoning processes. Love is the one thing that crosses all beliefs of any description.

Don't get me wrong! I like athesist and everybody. I have a lot of friends with different veiw points from me. It's just b/c I love these people so much I want them to know what I believe is the truth (Bible). But it's hard not to argue with people who keep dissing our beliefs and christ. I guess I am very zealous for Jesus, and don't want to see anyone go to Hell.
