You never know who you bump into today may remember you two or twenty years from now. What you do or say today has an impact on the rest of your life.
Be respectful to others and they will be to you. You must give respect to get it. When others do not, ask yourself why and either correct the situation or understand that the disrespectful person is racking up a lot of bad Karma.
What goes around comes around. Karma happens.

Besides the obvious answer that "you have to show respect to get respect", it shows that you have personal integrity and that you genuinely care about and have respect for others. This is a trait that is earned and often not found in people.
When people respect you, it shows trust.
Respect has to be earned and not demanded or expected.
A good leader earns and has the respect of the people they lead and you cannot lead without respect.
Being honest, truthful, and having dignity, integrity, and respect for others is a trait that people look for in others because it is the one thing we all want to see in a friend, a partner, a boss, a leader, etc.

It benefits a person in many ways being respectful. First of all you have to give respect to get it, and if you have respect then people will like you or look to you for advice. Also, you will be more apt to be hired or maintain employment being respectful towards all others. You will also be more likely to make friends and maintain friendships. I think respect is a basic value people must have instilled in them otherwise we are a bunch of rude, inconsiderate, self centered brats, and honestly who wants to deal with a bunch of people acting like that?

Respect benefits you by the way you feel about yourself. You will always be the harshest judge of yourself and SO the willingness to treat others with respect sends your positive energy right back to you. Think of the reverse situation, when you get angry or rude to someone, it takes negative energy! You feel either angry or rude, it eats up energy and sits like a stone in your stomach!

You have to give respect to get respect.
Think about the times you were rude or disrespectful and how it made you feel. No matter how much of a jerk the other person was, when you reciprocate in kind, it lessens you. Always be kind and respectful.
Besides, nothing, and I do mean nothing, counters disrespect better than kindness.

You reap what you sow.
You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
Lord, make my words soft and tender in case I should ever have to eat them.
You can't go around acting like a jerk and expect people to like you. If you want respect, show respect to others, it will come back to you naturally.

When I treat others with love and respect, they will treat me (in most cases) with love and respect. When I treat others with respect, I am following the beliefs and principles of my Lord. I can await a heavenly reward.

People will like you, then when they have anything that might benefit you, they will let it on to you. If you are disrespectful, they won't like you then they won't help you when you need the help. What goes around comes around.
