Explaining sex to a 6 years old kid can be difficult. But remember that at 6, their brain is already developed. Your child is rightly curious about the amazing changes going on in your body. Young children are interested in how babies are created and born and you can give simple information to very young children. The amount of detail you use depends upon your child's interest and understanding; complex anatomical information will be more interesting to an older child.

It won't matter that you skipped over information about the sperm and egg in your first talk, but your daughter is clearly keen to hear about this part of the story now.

If you're worried about going into details I suggest you visit the local library to get one of several helpful children's books about how babies are made. You could read this together and answer your daughter's questions as you go.

Be factual and honest in your answers, talk in language your child understands, for example, you may want to use everyday names for genitals rather than medical terms. Giving information about how the sperm and egg join will not make your child too knowing about sex.

It's up to you when you tell your daughter about the intimate details of sexual intercourse. Right now her curiosity concerns her new baby brother or sister so I'd advise sticking to the mechanics of creating a baby.
