Trannyman166 is correct, you need to have the vehicle checked with a scan tool for fault codes. AutoZone will do this free of charge. You can then try a Yahoo search for the fault code, or feel free to e-mail me and I'll try to help with the code. If you are lucky, you may just have a faulty speed sensor, but you probably have dried-out seals, which will require an overhaul or replacement. But we need to know the code. BTW If you e-mail me, I can only respond if you have a VALID e-mail address and you have your "receive e-mail" turned on in Answers!

Chryslers have the ability to be read without a computer scanner, you rotate the ignition key three times in a row, on the third time watch the check engine light blink, it will blink out numbers, a little pause means theres a new number coming, a long pause means a new set of numbers ex: blink.blinkblink....blink.blinkblink would mean codes 12,12 1 2 pause 1 2. Try this my car gave me a code even though the check engine light was never on.
You can call your local auto parts store they should be able to tell you all the codes that the computer will generate, if not try your local Chrysler dealers service department.

Your transmission is going into limp mode. This is because a fault code has been triggered because of a problem. You have to get the vehicle scanned to find out what the code is. Once this is done, the code will lead you in the direction of the required repair. Until then, problem & cost is unknown.
