Your best bet is to look in the Yellow Pages (listings usually include how long they've been in business) or consult the local BBB.

If it has the Phillips logo, you might as well scrap it. I am no longer a phillips authorized service center. Shure, they pay VERY well, but I have Sony and Panasonic.
