Professional use Avon Skin so soft in a spray bottle and spray horses and dogs so that the flies do not bother them. It really works.

Pyrethrin or permethrin sprays and ointments can be very effective in dealing with flies. Your vet can tell you what products to buy.
If you do use OTC meds, always check with your vet because some breeds are known to have a high incidence of allergies with certain products.
After you use any product, monitor the dog carefully for the next 6 to 8 hours. If the dog starts rubbing its muzzle, scratching, panting, breathing hard, or showing other signs of allergic reaction, take him to the vet immediately.

Go to your veterinarian and purchase a product called Petguard Gel, or similar. You can use it on your dogs ear tips and rub a small amount all over on the top of the fur. It will repel flies and gnats. PLEASE don't use anything sold otc (over the counter) at grocery stores or pet shops.

Flies are gonna always come caz that's natural. I suggest that you wash your dog every one or two weeks with a shampoo called Zodiac. It is for cats and dogs.

let your companion animal live indoors.
if he must live outdoors, make sure you bathe him every few weeks (more frequently will rob his skin of oils that protect him from disease) make sure he has adequate shelter that is clean and dry, that you change his water regularly, and that he is not confined to small areas.
Flies CAN bite through the skin of animals. i have seen neglected dogs lose most of their EARS to fly strikes. Please take care of your dog. To keep fleas and ticks away, also bathe with anti-flea shampoo AND use a topical treatment like Advantix or something.

I use the same bug spray that I use for me & my family on my golden. When she see's the bottle she know's what I'm going to do & puts her head down. I spray along her back & butt & belly & then cover her eyes & quickly hit her head/ears. She sneezes several times when I'm done & then slides thru the grass. I'm not sure, but I think they make a fly spray for dogs too. Might check you local pet store :o)
