there is a time in every ones life to grow up by doing so you have ,to take a stand . a stand in taking up for your self say no,
and mean it .not always taken advice from any older family member,or from siblings or parents. life is about learning from
experience not other peoples opinion .in life we make a lot of mistakes that's how we learn. after 30yrs on this planet you ha vent found that out yet if you have to cut them off you would be in mature taken a little girls way out .in order to get the respect your looking for you should let them see a new res ponce when they try to control parts of your life make it noun that you don't need their advice thanks but I'm a grown women now ! what worked for you in the past may not work for me . or just stop telling them your business unless you want their advice. in other words people only now what you tell them maybe that's the problem you may have been given out to much info.

I cant understand why you would be asking this question at 30 but, I can give you some advise. Yes, of course your parents will always give you advise but at 30 yrs old you have the choice of listening or not. Controling you is something else, I dont see how they could control you unless you live with them, and if that is the case move out...move on, but you cant cut them out of your life. Just tell them how you feel. They will understand, I hope this helps!!

No, don't cut them off. If you still live with them, then they do have some right to tell you what to do. Move out on your own. Let them know that you value their opinion, but that you can handle things on your own. Put yourself in their shoes. My son is only 7 years old and I know that when he grows up I'm still going to want to tell him what I think is best for him. All parents do. Just don't cut them off. You will need them some day. And they might not be around.

If you still live at home- then you can't very well do that.
if you are out on your own- then how can they be so controlling? They may WANT to be controlling- but if you pay for everything yourself- and don't live at home- then your life IS your life. Let them see by example. Don't EVER cut your parents off. They were there for you all your life....you will regret it at some point, but you CAN let them know that they brought you up so that you COULD be independant- tell them to sit back and see what a success they were! :)
How's that?

Dear catchpounce...
You need to define the term " cut them off " and based on your answer you will know what do u want.
you need to know something, your parents are living in a different generation, their ideas and thoughts are different,BUT they care and love and you know what they admire you. when i was a teenager every thing my parents say is wrong, when i become 29 , well 80% of their talking is right , and am sure when i get married and have kids 101% will be right.
So the main thing i need you to understand is that some day you will miss their control in your life coz they are not controlling dear no, they r loving you in their own way ...
Bless you
♥

As I often say to friends who have the same situation as you do, "Your parents know how to push your buttons because they're the ones who installed them!" By all means, get away from them. Maybe you don't need to cut them off completely, but you need a chance to live your own life and make your own mistakes (yep...that, too!) It won't get any better unlessYOU take control of the situation. Good luck!

You can't just cut your parents of. If you are 30 then they are probably getting up in their years. They just want to spend time with you. Parents have been where you are. They may be just trying to help as well. Talk to them about it, before you make the decision to cut them out of your life for good.

I think you should tell them you'd like to talk to them. And ask them to please not interrupt until you're done talking because it is important.
Tell them that you are the person you are because of how they raised you. If they don't think you can make proper decisions, then it is actually a reflection on themselves, as parents. Tell them that you love them dearly, but you now need to live your own life, and PROVE to them that they raised you properly.
It's hard for parents to argue with facts like that. LOL. They may have a hard time leaving you alone, but allow them baby steps, and thank them for it. If they don't leave you alone at all? Tell them that their forced presence in your life is going to force you to cut off communication, which is the LAST thing you want.
Sounds like YOU have to be the adult here. Good luck!

If you sit them down and tell them how you feel and how fed up you actually are they may listen. This sounds terrible but before you decide to cut them off scare them with the realization that you are to that point. I am not trying to say threaten them .... I am merely saying let them know that this could be consequences if they do not back off. I am sure they just love you and want you to do what is best. However, they are suffocating you and you are an adult.

I hope to heck you're not still living at home, if so, move out. You're an adult, if you're not living with your parents, I honestly don't see what they can control, unless you're allowing them to. So quit allowing them to control you. If they offer unsolicited advise--which parents will do from time to time--take it with a grain of salt, smile, and then do whatever you were going to do anyway. Just because they tell you what to do doesn't mean you have to do it. I would never recommend cutting off your own parents, except in cases of abuse and neglect. Best of luck to you!
