Visit the school first so your child knows where to go on the first day. As someone who has switched schools a few times, a simple question or comment between piers can start a friendship.

Going to a new school can be tough. My best advice to you is to be yourself, don't try too hard to impress anyone because that is where most kids make their biggest mistake - people will like you for you, but won't like you if you are fake. Smile, make eye contact, say hello - borrow a pen from someone or compliment someone you want to get to know on something they are wearing to help start a conversation, look for someone you may like to get to know and ask how to get somewhere in the school, .... Most of all relax, even for kids that have gone to the school for a while, they are still nervous about starting a new grade...so you aren't alone in how you feel.

My oldest son is starting Highschool Grade Nine this yr, and as i told him. Just remember that there are probably 100 other students or more feeling the same way you feel. Just be yourself, and don't try to be someone you are not.People will like you better if you are truly yourself. Be friendly and smile , and go in with your head high. Be confident. Thats the best advice i can give you.
Hope that helps at least a little :)))))))

make friends with the pretty girls and sit next to them and get in with them, you'll be set for the next 6 years until you leave for college.
