I have two old toilets in my garden (for planter purposes) and my daughter loved to pee in those, LOL.
How about making a target for him? Just paint a circle on some cardboard or hessian, and give each circle points, eg 50 for the centre, 20 for the next one, 10 for the outer one. You could also incorporate this with treats, e.g. a sticker for hitting the target. You could also accumulkate points over a day and give him a treat accordingly (e.g. 150+ = a small toy, 100+ = a pencil, 50+ = a large sticker).
Alternatively, you could get him to pee on the slugs :-)
Good luck!

I'm also a single mom with a little boy. He refuses to pee outside because I won't do it. I finally convinced him that it was ok but then he peed on the playground at school and got in trouble. So now, there is nothing that I can do to get him to just pee outside. Good luck!!

Hi, I'm sorry, I don't think that I can help that much - but I have to tell you that I had two boys and a girl. My daughter started to have wet knickers about a year after she was potty trained. I wondered why and told her that she should use the toilet - and she told me that she did.
One morning I saw her in the toilet and she was standing in front of it with her knickers around her ankles - just standing there and peeing! I told her that she couldn't do that and would have to sit on the toilet - and her answer to me was that was how her brothers did it!
Not much help, I know - but I thought that it might amuse you.

this isn't strange lots of little ones are shy or ashamed to pee in *public* places. Usually just seeing an older person do it will help them to know that its ok! also, don't act like its a big deal, don't act like its fun to pee outside or its a secret thing we do, anything matter-of-fact will help him. "Go pee by that tree if you have to go" instead of secretive:" shhh we'll just go over here and noone will see" or fun: "oh lets pee on a tree it will help the tree grow"

Once he starts to use the grown up toilet, it'll be easier to switch to peeing on trees. Or take him down the high street on a Saturday night, show him all the men peeing against walls. He'll get the idea.

All I can suggest is without going over the top, make sure he knows its wrong to do this. Is there a man in your life who can show him how to go against a tree etc?? Little boys love to copy what "daddy" or a substitute does.
Good luck x

He is probably a little embarrassed with the thought of everyone watching him (that is why he lies on his front and pees)
Tell him that no one will watch while he does his business
