Of those who don't share, but could, I would guess that it is because they do not know the joy of helping others.

Too often, we think of the needy as those who have brought their poverty and misery upon themselves. Not everyone fits into that category, but even if they did, would it be wrong to help them get back on their feet? No.

If the rich want to help the needy through their tax dollars, why do they hire accountants and tax lawyers to help them avoid paying taxes?

Actually, they DO, by paying a higher tax rate than poor people. Why can't poor people just try harder to get a better job? There are so many liberal programs out there and so many opportunities to better yourself through education and other training, FOR FREE, that there is no reason why you should feel that being poor is anyone else's fault but your own. People CHOOSE to drop out of school, get pregnant, do drugs, sit on Yahoo all day, play video games, etc. Also, people need to live within their means. You don't NEED a cell phone, a computer, an iPod, a superfancy car, new clothes, designer shoes, fast food at every meal, 3 movie channels on the cable with a TiVo, Starbucks every morning...
People are becoming poorer only in relation to the people in the TV commercials who have everything. Ask your friends, I'll bet they're struggling to keep up as much as you and me.

I will step down from the soapbox now.

Let me see

first the rich pay more taxes than others, so they help with the welfare system

Next they work hard and it is "thier" money to do with as they want, in the US we live in a nation where people get to keep what they work for and use for thierself, in a socialist state they would merely take all of the money and give it to everyone, but of course no one would want to work hard, since they would lose all they work for, thus all are poor.

So the homeless need to work and help thierself not have someone give them hand outs.

Well, some 'ritch' people do help out. I think more of them should help out the less fortunate, but everyone shouldn't expect them, too. I'm probably middle class (or a little lower), and I'm always trying 2 help others.

some rich people do. I guess it all depends where you came from. Some are born into being rich. Some are sef-made. Some are just plain lucky. I guess if you were homeless once and somehow made it big you would be more incline to give back. At least i hope so

You got it all wrong! Rich people create jobs, give money (big time) to charities, and generally don't have to go over guilt trips. Just ask Bill Gates, richest guy every, most generous dude.

Bill Gates and his wife work fulltime on their charity organization, working on things like stopping the spread of malaria, etc. It doesn't get much more rich than them.

Because it's their money and they're not responsible for the state of others. And how do you know they don't?
A lot of them give a lot of money to charity.
