Before the late 80's, I had no problem with remembring events. I fell ill one day when I became blank.on recovering from the illness, I found it very difficult to concentrate when reading for example and remembring what I read and understood after a few days

This happened to someone on TV.
But a doctor was there to help him, because you can make your memory better, no matter what the circumstances.
The doctor made the man train to remember a shopping list. The man was told to look at the landscape on his route to work. There he would see buildings and objects which reminded him of partiular foods.
This took a few days so he could have a better chance at remembering each thing he passed.
When the day came, the man went into the supermarket and traced in his mind way the way to his workplace. By going through this, he managed to remember all the items on the shopping list.

So yes, as many people have answered, I would recommend seeing a doctor.

By doing simple memory tasks, your brain will get used to the knowledge.

Myself, I play Brain Training and The Big Brain Academy on Nintendo DS. They supply a number of training programmes which help your brain grow and stay healthy. They are brilliant!!

You should talk to your doctor just in case there are any mental, physical issues like brain damage or Alzheimer's.

If there are none - practice everyday with fun little memory games to exercise your brain. ei: have someone right 3-5 numbers on a sheet of paper and show them to you for 2 seconds, then try to remember all the numbers. The more you do it, the better you will get at it - at one point I have 14 numbers memorized under a second.

you dont say what kind of illness you had.If you repeat names 3 times when you meet someone or the event you want to remember 3 times then you will.If you find youre forgetting things like keys,gas being left on etc etc then go see doc who can do a mini mental to rule out the possibility of a demnting type illness

I am suffering from the same problem, take Ginkoba Biloba if you can remember to take it.

There are also some total supplements devoted to memory enhancement.

They work. A lot of memory problems are due to vitamin or mineral deficiency.

Hi there, I have more or less the same problem with names and events. I heard Fish Oil is good as the Omega3 helps the brain, also eating sardines and Tuna helps. I don't mean Cod Liver Oil, but Fish Oil from H&B maybe.. hope it helps.

I don't know how old you are, but I am knocking 50, and my short term memory is rubbish.

I have to write everything on the calender or in my diary. I am use to it now, and it does not impact on my life in any way much at all.

Don't let it worry you unduly. See your doctor to rule out anything nasty. Good luck.

I had the same problem in the 70's, then I quit smoking drugs, and memory came back. Amazing recovery!

Whats the point in me telling you how to improve your memory when you will only forget it later. Try writing stuff down.

You can get pills from the health shop the only problem I have with them is remembering to take them.

go see your doctor as soon as possible. dont leave it to get worse or one day you'll end up waking up and you'll be a member of the british government.
