I think it depends on the person, and how mature they are. Let's say you are a twenty year old guy and there is a 17 girl you like. If that girl is one of those always home by 9 pm, still gets grounded, sheltered girls, then she doesn't have the maturity to date an older guy. If she is one of those had to raise herself because mom or dad left years ago, and the other parent works full time or is an alcoholic or whatever, then she is going to be much more mature. When I was 19, I married a 27 year old guy. It didn't work, but not because of age. Then when I was 23, I had a baby with a 17 year old! Like I said, it's about the maturity, not the age.

I think it should be against the law, but at the same time we need to build common sense into the law and give at least a four to five year age difference. For example, let's say a Senior in high school dates a freshman girl. That would not be against the law, but the following year when he turns 18 or then it's against the law. That law is the dumbest law on the books.

It's not that it's disgusting. It's the law.
When a person turns 18 they are considered BY LAW to be an adult. Anyone under the age of 18 is considered a minor, a child. So anyone 18 & over, who engages in a relationship with a child risks a jail sentence & labeled a sex offender FOR THE REST OF
THEIR LIFE.
Ps. I found this on a site for you.
What is Statutory Rape?
It’s a crime committed when an adult has sexual intercourse with a minor. Who is a minor? Anyone under the age of 18.
Q. What can happen if an adult has sex with a minor? Even if he is your boyfriend?
A. If reported, that person may be arrested, tried in a court of law, and sent to jail.
Q. What happens if the sex is consensual and one is a minor?
A. Even if they both agree to have sex, it is still statutory rape.
Q. What can happen if an adult has sex with a minor? Even if he is your boyfriend and even if your parents allow it?
A. If reported, that person can be arrested, tried in a court of law, and sent to jail.

As #1 said- it's against the law. If you don't have enough sense not to break it in that respect then you don't have respect for the girls need to mature enough to make those decisions (yes, you aren't considered mature enough to make those decisions until you're 18 due to the hormonal cocktail zipping through your blood, lack of experience, and various other things. That's why it's illegal.) There is nothing wrong with liking someone younger (or older) then you. But you should still have the respect to wait.

I dated a 16 yr. old when i was 20. The difference was that I took it on myself to sit down with her mother and discuss my intentions. I had parents permission to see and date her. I don't think it's disgusting at all, but it is against the law.

If you can't even spell pedophile, what makes you think you are mature enough to pursue a relationship?
Some states have less strict laws when the age difference between the two is small. But it is still a crime. It's not because it's "gross" or "disgusting" but because it damages people.

I'm a psychology student and the term pedophile does not include people "at the end of adolescence" having sex with younger teens...
So maybe this is not the best situation in the world, but technically I don't think you'll get in trouble...
