On the floor (as opposed to a shelf) = +3db
On the floor, next to a wall = +6db
On the floor, next to two walls (corner) = +9db
Install a high pass filter set to the lowest frequency that you need to reproduce. Most subs can not accurately produce bass below 50hz or so. If you filter frequencies out below that, it will free the amp to provide more power to the frequencies that the sub CAN reproduce.

placing a sub in the corner can give you more output ( that's if you have room )& louder & more bass. never put a sub in the middle of a room you loose bass & the db level output itself

Turn up the bass control on you receiver, turn on the loudness control also.
Turn up the level control on your sub-woofer.
