Dear Lets Talk,
You are in the worst poosible place you could be! I do not have the space here to give you a complete answer but I'll do my best. Please read Revelation 18:4. God is telling you, the reader, to come out of her. Who or what is the "her." The her is ALL the local congragations (churches). The Holy Spirit has departed from the local churches so that their is NO POSSIBILITY of salvation there, regardless of the accuracy of the preaching or teaching (2 Thessalonians 2). If you read Ezekiel 9, this will give you a picture of what is going on spiritually there! That is why you need to leave the church. Please read all of Revelation 18. You may be asking, "But why is the Lord bringing judgment on the churches?" Because they have departed from the word of God and set up idols there. In 1 Peter 4:17 the Lord tells us that judgment begins at the house of God. Judgemnt does not start on the world--they are already under the control of satan! The idols are not visible, but idols of the heart. If you read Matthew 24:15, 16 this is another warning to get out of the church! The abomination of desolation is satan. The Holy Place is where the Bible (true Gospel) should be. The mountain is a picture of Christ (Psalms 121). The whole Bible is written in parables (Mark 4:33, 34), but only God can open your eyes to see this.
Please see the parable of the wheat and the tares to see this situation.
I have to go now but check the reference below.

No, just a surge in superstition. Because of the Bush administration's fear monger, it has radicalized the religious right. There is a trend away from smaller churches to mega-churches. Another factor in this is that people like being entertained, and the mega-churches cropping up are catering to that.
In actuality, the largest growing group is "NO RELIGION" according to the ARIS survey.

Is your church a mega church?
Is their message cheap grace?
The national council of Church's said that mega Church's are a mile wide and a inch deep.
Do they have coffee there? Do they have rock music in the service? Is the pastor trained by Rick Warren or Bill Hybals?
Those are signs of cheap grace.

Nah. Other churchs have been shrinking, some growing. It's something that's been happening in every religion for all time now.
Statistically, Christianity hasn't been having much of a jump. The religious/migratory patterns in your area just make it seem like it has.

People are vary afraid today they do not see good things for the future, with all the terror and war mans inhumanity to man, the violence towards our children in our schools, they see a world that is becoming unsafe to live in it seems to be a world gone mad, so they are looking to God for hope that man will come to his senses and live in peace, I do not believe it is a last day harvest as you put it but people afraid for the future and they seek comfort from "God Amen for that."

I think it's just a result of more churches coming to understand what works to draw people in and keep them coming (I.e. moving forward into the 21st century and making the Word applicable in today's life.) Sounds like y'all are doing something right. Stop worrying and keep it up !
