Assuming you're a teen or young 20 - Make her a coupon book with 40 coupons. Have them be things like:

Will clean my room without complaining
Will fix lunch for mom and serve it to her in front of TV
Will wash and wax mom's car
Will fix dinner for family
Will do grocery shopping according to mom's list
One Movie Night With Mom - her choice - popcorn included

Make up things that you know will appeal to her... and things that showcase (or make up for!) your particular shortcomings the rest of the year :) You can have more than one coupon of each thing... like 12 for the car wash etc (one for each month for the next year)

If you have a job and can afford it, take her out to lunch... just the two of you... dress nice and pull out her chair. Leave the nose rings and baggy pants and attitude at home if you normally have them - lol Be the charming boy Mom knows she gave birth to.

If you really want to splurge, see if there's a community theatre production in town... something being performed that she would enjoy. Shows are typically not expensive and sometimes there are free recitals for music ensembles and soloists if she's into that. If she's more into bowling or PuttPutt do that with her. Just focus on her for the day and do whatever it is WITH her. That's the most important part :)

Depends on your budget, if you are 8 or 10 years old and you don't have alot of cash stick with something simple. If you have an older relative, aunt, cousin, other parent around, see if they will help you on ebay. With a "buy it now" option it would arrive in time, and can often find inexpensive collectibles on there.

If you are 20ish then splurge a little! After all 40 is one of those round number birthdays, buy an expensive sweater you know she wouldn't buy for herself or an expensive wine or scotch depending on her drinks tastes. If she isn't into frivolous presents, you can always replace something she uses alot that is getting worn out, but replace it with a very good brand.

Sweetie,Speaking as a 40 yr mom.I love and thing my kids give me.But with moms it truly is more of the thought u put into then the gift it self.40 is a big one and she may even be feeling her age somewhat so a spa treatment would be nice. But whatever u give her from the heart is what is really going to make her day.

I will tell you probably the best gift I ever gave my mother, it was fairly inexpensive, and to date it sets on her coffee table as one of her prized possessions.
Get a large glass container, something not much different than a cookie jar (with a lid) clear is nice, you can even use those very large kitchen containers that look much like mason jars.
Then you will need some nice stationary paper, maybe something pastel (choose a favorite color of hers), cut in to strips.
Some ribbon.
A glue stick.
Some sparkles or sequins.
Then use each strip of paper to write on.
What I did was briefly write about a favorite memory of her, her and I, memories of my childhood, etc. (i.e.) "The time you took me outside to dance in a rain storm, and we whirled around like we were Stevie Nicks". Then neatly roll them up, and tie them with a ribbon. Use a little glue stick on each rolled note (just a swipe) and sprinkle with sparkles. When you are finished toss remaining sparkles in container. If you have siblings, have them do this also. It's a good idea to start writing down your ideas (memories) now, so you will have plenty when the time comes.
This gift is the bomb! Mom's love this stuff!!!
Try it you won't be disappointed!

If you do...let me know how it turns out!

One of best things is a card or letter telling her what she means to you, thank her for the things she has done, remember special times etc. My daughter usually gives me spa stuff but the cards and her thoughts out last the gifts buy a long shot. I send my mom flowers. Many blessings to you both and don't forget to hug her and tell her you love her.

what kind of stuff is she into? and how much are you planning on spending? almost any mom loves what their kids get them no matter what, but my suggestion would be candles, bath and body products, if you have more money maybe a gift certificate for a massage and a day at a spa or something, shes your mom shed probably love it even if you made her something out of macaroni lol good luck.

I dont know. what does she like? I would always go with scented candles. You can't go wrong there. Every female like pretty smelling things.
Or, you can go to like bath and body works and get her some nice bubble bath or soaps that smell great. Again, going with the pretty smelling things.
Sometimes you can get her a "mom" mug or you can get her books if she likes to read, or music if she likes that or you can buy her a nice journal so she can write her thoughts............I can go on and on, just trying to help. goodluck.
