Cities are all the same and not the place for a holiday break. I live in Ireland and I can assure you that Dublin is a very lively city but it is not for me. It depends on what you want. If you want scenery and very friendly people then your only option is the west coast. The pace of live is very different. The west coast is very popular for tourists Americans, Germans, French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish and even Japanese. I recommend County Cork, County Kerry, County Clare, County Galway and County Donegal. My preference for scenery and for travel would be West Cork, Kerry and Clare. The Ring of Kerry is a must in an anti clockwise direction. Dingle is a famous spot on the Ring of Kerry. All of West Cork on the coast is beautiful. County Clare is a very rugged county with a interesting limestone rock formation. In County Clare I would recommend the Cliffs Of Moher and keep to the coast stop in Fanore and take in the scenery and go on to Ballyvaughan. Your best bet is to fly to Shannon airport. Ryan air does cheap flights. Hire a car if you can to take as much in as you can. Guest houses are dotted all over the place and provide a friendly atmosphere. If you spend an evening in Doolin ( a must) it is the home of traditional Irish music, very small but has a very high tourist throughput don't miss O'Connors for food and the music starts at 21:30 every night. Great atmosphere. There is more than one hostel I think. The food is great in Ireland no matter where you go. Try the guinness and live the life. Girls are safe on their own even hitch hicking. Next month the tourist season will be starting to taper off. If you are looking for a man then Lisdoonvarna in County Clare ( near the coast) is the place to be for a bit of craic (Irish word for fun) during the month of September it is matchmaking time for the month. It is usually farmers looking for a wife but the craic is good. It is more or less a month long party.
I suspect you are young and it may be nightlife with discos you may want so maybe scenery is not your thing. No matter where you go in Ireland you will be made welcome.
Hope you have a great time. You could search in google or yahoo for the Irish Tourist Board or County Cork, County Kerry or County Clare.

The Eliza Lodge Guesthouse is rated as #7 on TripAdvisor (the hotels rated from 1 to 6 are not really guesthouses or are located a little out of Dublin). This small hotel is centrally located and guests say it has "lovely views" and "friendly staff".

If heading to southern Ireland don't forget to check out West Cork. You will only find good guesthouses in the likes of Bantry, Glengarrif and of course Castletownbere. If it's Kerry you prefer - head to Dingle - they even have their own dolphin. No matter where you go stick to Bord Failte guesthouses and you can't go wrong. Enjoy your trip agus Cead Mile Failte

on no account heard of Killanena in Co. Clare, yet there are various small villages and townlands in that county besides. in case you could no longer locate one on the cyber web, attempt the closest village or city and look there. Clare is an enormously universal vacationer holiday spot, so which you're particular to locate some thing interior some miles. Failing that, telephone the village submit workplace and that they are going to recommend you.
