You should talk to the doctor that's prescribed the medication. Most anti-depressants have weight gain as a listed side-effect but since all of our bodies react differently to medication its hard to tell what will happen untill you try it out. I've had experiences where I've witnessed individuals put on a lot of wieght and some none at all (or actually lose some) Good luck!

Antidepressants were intended to only be taken for a short period of time, to get someone through a tough time. However, there are some people that need them for much longer due to severe psychological problems.
They are over prescribed and over used today and I suggest you ask yourself if you really need them. There is a great deal of information out there on the disadvantages, weight gain is the mildest.
It's best to work on your problems, go to a counselor on a regaular basis for talk therapy and make good choices in your life. We all go through tough times, none of us escapes that. Some people are taught how to deal with life's problems, and do much better. Too many have learned helplessness. Find out what you have learned. You can improve your life by not being helpless. Take care.

There are a variety that may work for you. My advice: don't let the fear of weight gain keep you from getting healthy. Good mental health is key to a good body image. Take care of your mind right now and your body will follow.

I would have to say yes and no though, but if you like to exercise ask your doctor to put you some kind of diet. As I too am in the same boat.
