I have read many families have a name for their school. Why do you need a name? Do you get discounts and is it legal in Florida?

It is fun to name your school! When you graduate your
homeschooler from high school, you can put this
name on your diploma.

I have gotten discounts for
showing my Home School Legal Defense card.
Go to www.hslda.org to join. Homeschoooing is legal
in all 50 states, thanks to the people that fight for our
rights to homeschool.

Some states require homeschoolers to be "private schools" and so they need to have a name (not many require this). Here in Texas, we don't need to have a name, but we are considered private schools. I can get a discount at most stores (bookstores and the like) just by saying I'm a teacher - no ID required. However, most only allow the discount on 'school-related' items (books and the like).

Homeschooling is legal in all 50 states, but the requirements are different for each. The HSLDA website has a great overview for each state and a more detailed analysis for each, as well.

I think people name them because the school board asks them to. Our school's name is just our last name. Some bookstores do discounts, but there aren't many. It is legal in Florida, my mom does it.
