From what have read in the bible, the soul is our enitre self as a being. It Jesus is the life and we only get immortality through him, why do many Christians say the soul never dies? Either we are immortal or we're not and have to resurrect. If God gives eternal life to the saved, he isn't also going to give eternal life to the unsaved, is he? I have one big question for you:
If eternal life can be given, cant't it also be taken away?

Why limit our god's power?

God said: The soul that sinneth, it shall die!
Satan said: You won't really die!

The soul is eternal.

But the soul may reside in one of two places after the body dies.

Wow! Are you confused!

Your soul never dies. Your body (the vessel does). You will spend eternity in heaven or hell. Triciky play on words I admit but no one ever came to the conclusions that you did. Perhaps a life in Hell is also spoken of death...or death is the loss of Christ in your life.

I guess you are being a little too literal in the word immortality.

If you have eternal life, the determining factor is you...and when it begins (my idea). If you "sin" against God then at the time of your passing, when there is no time for repentance, you have sealed your fate and you will spend "eternity" in Hell.

However, if you chose Jesus as the way, and are "destined" for eternal life, then I have maintained that "eternity" starts now! So, you can benefit from "eternal life" while still "alive" in this body!

Because the rest of your life starts now (sorry for the cliche). But you can still blow it while still here...isn't that true?

So, it could be "taken away" as you are the decider in the path you will take.

And we have nothing to say about God's power and how he uses it.

It has to do with the immortality of the body. "And man became a living soul." The spirit lives beyond the mortal body. That is the hope we have in Christ is the resurrection of the body that will live eternally united with the life giving spirit that comes from God. Where a person spends eternity is the question.

Christians have a totally whacky idea of what the 'soul' is supposed to be. For the Jews of that time... including Jesus... the 'soul' was an enveloping emanation from the godhead that resulted from the community's relationship with god. The soul as a component of a human being (Christian view) is an artifact of Greek thinking on 'dualism'... which was incorporated into Christian dogma and lore by Gentile theologians, who were ignorant of Jewish (and Jesus') concept of 'soul'.

So... apart from the fact that all of this stuff is mythological nonsense, anyway... everyone's worries about what happens to their personal 'soul' are of no consequence... it does not exist.

According to christian doctrine, the human sould is immortal. That is, it has created, but does not die. God is eternal; He always is, He is uncreated.

When the scripture says that the only way to eternal life, it refers to living on in Heaven, in communion with God. This is contrasted with going to Hell, where the soul is denied the presence of God.

Resurrection refers to the reunion of the immortal soul and the mortal body.

Yes, God's word the Bible will tell you that the soul is YOU. It refers to animals as souls even. It also tells us that the soul CAN die (Ez. 18:4). Eternal life Can be given however the Bible tells us that it will be established on the earth as well as in heaven! Spirit beings will live in heaven (a spiritual dwelling) and physical beings will "inherit the earth". These ones will not live in heaven with the ones who are chosen to rule over them as co-rulers with Jesus. You would benefit from a study of the Bible with the next Jehovah's Witness that you meet. They have a correct understanding of the Bible.

We've all got immortal souls, but imagine you die saying, "Who needs God, who needs Christ, whatever." You will rise again and be judged as a person who doesn't need God, so you WILL live forever, in a sea of fire, unable to put yourself out, unable to do anything about it, but scream, cry out for help, and recieve nothing. Imagine putting your face on an oven coil. Imagine never being able to remove it. Ever. Want that for an immortal eternity?

OR trust that Christ paid for your sins with his life, and then was raised again, justifying you blameless before God. Once you understand that, and how your sin debt and emnity with God is over now, you'll see that you're no enemy of God, and he sees you as no enemy either, but a sinner, trusting in the substitute he sent to pay for your sins. When you do die, (and make no mistake, you're going down one day) you'll live forever in Christ, away from a blazing unending sea of fire. Also immortally, and eternally.

Take your pick.

We are immortal - all of us - God designed us each that way - that's why there's heaven and hell - we are born actually going to hell - it's only when we are convicted in our soul by the Holy Spirit that we can choose salvation - if we reject it then nothing has changed, we're still going to hell, if we accept salvation, then everything has changed, we're now going to heaven. So our immortality doesn't come through Jesus Christ, our salvation comes through Jesus Christ and he is the only way into heaven, but God's design, not man's. So, we can't limit God's power - whoever has planted these notions in your mind, have not known what it is to truly know God.

The soul that sins will die, the bible says. Wages of sin is death, not eternal life in Hell. Same lie Satan told in the Garden of Eden, see Genesis 3:3. God said you will die but Satan said you will NOT die, so who do people believe, Satan. Also says that we need to seek immortality so if we need to seek it, must not have it already. If you do not have it, you die. Simple as that.

We are not immortal souls. The only way to gain everlasting life is through Jesus Christ .

John 3:16-17

Sadly, you might experience eternal death if you do not choose Christ's payment for your sin.
