Hi. I am in IL myself, and here is the CORRECT answer. For an automobile, new plates cost $78.00 for normal plates (random numbers), $85 for personalized plates(your choice of wording but must end in a number), or $91 for vanity plates (all letters). There are also some specialized plates for the environment, Pt. 66, Prevent violence, 9/11, Breast cancer, etc. that are around $105.00.
As far as the title goes...an original, duplicate, or corrected title is $65.00. So, if you just want normal plates and a title, the total cost would be $78 + $65= $143.00. you can get all this info from the IL Secretary of State's official website, which is www.cyberdriveillinois.com. (The DMV site mentioned by others is just a pass-thru to this site, which is the actual site.) There is a complete list for virtually all fees involved with anything auto-related, plus more.
