I don't think there's any ambiguity whatsoever in that verse! Quite easy to understand really, just take it at face value. It's not pulling any punches, is it?

The context is that pagans in Muhammed's day would have been the idol worshipping polytheists. Muhammed wanted Muslims to reject polytheism and idol worship, as a symbol of their pure monotheism, so Muhammed would have good reason to add this to the Qur'an. Muhammed isn't saying to actually go out and slay people, it's more symbolic of slaying the culture of paganism, such as a strong rejection of the pagan way of life, the daily sacrifices to the pagan gods, and instead surrender themselves to Allah.

Just because the people in here are fighting pagans, this shouldn't be taken as a reason to hunt down and slay pagans everywhere. It sounds like a part of the Bible where a protagonist was fighting and incursion of people who happened to be pagans. Using language like that to rally troops is perfectly fine, but taking this as a cause to hate and kill people you don't know would be VERY VERY NOT CHRIST-LIKE.

Here is the link to chapter 9:

It was given to Muslims when the pagans of Mecca broke the peace treaty and were about to attack Muslims.

Chapter 9 is considered as the most militant chapter of Quran for Muslims.

Cities that neither "receive" the disciples nor "hear" their words will be destroyed by God. It will be worse for them than for Sodom and Gomorrah. And you know what God supposedly did to those poor folks (see Gen.19:24). Matthew 10:14-15

Homosexuals (those "without natural affection") and their supporters (those "that have pleasure in them") are "worthy of death." Romans 1:31-32

your problem my friend is that you didn't continue the verse .. if you continue it will say .. the verse after it says : And if anyone of the Mushrikûn (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh) seeks your protection then grant him protection, so that he may hear the Word of Allâh (the Qur'ân), and then escort him to where he can be secure, that is because they are men who know not. !

and in islam we have prioroties .. first we ask you to convert to islam .. if you disobey .. we ask you for money so that you be safe .. if you also refuse .. then it's your problem !

see ya

The ""Cover Story"" for this is that it is only for DEFENSE!

IN truth, anyone who is offered islam and refuses becomes the ENEMY and is a PAGAN. So islam is to DESTROY them.

PEACE can only come when ALL submit to the Takrit village god, allah.
