no. You must first pass the height/weight /body fat standards before you can enlist. if, even 20 lbs overweight, you can pass the body fat standards, you can get in. But even though muscle weighs more than fat, you would have to be VERY muscular to be 20 pounds over and still be within fat standrads.

I hope you know that you're really 20 pounds overweight by army standards. They're pretty generous. I was in the Navy and got pregnant and gained 50 pounds and still was within the standards for non-pregnant females.

If you're only a couple of pounds, then they may place you on a special diet and more exercise classes. Sounds reasonable except these classes are held at some god-awful hour before everything else starts, like 4 am. Try to get within the range beforehand.

That depends on your Body Mass Index. Go see you recruiter. They can give you a tape test. to tell you your BMI. Good luck you'll lose it in basic. : )

By the way I was way back when I joined. Only 5' 2" weighed nearly 30 lbs over ideal and I passed. I grew up on a farm and was very muscular. I left basic wearing a size 5 and was still overweight. : )

If you can pass the rope n choke you can get in. But I was like maybe 10 pounds over and working out and didn't pass it. If you want in you are going to have to loose the weight.

i am not sure,i don't think they can discriminate ,but you might have to and want to be in shape cause i heard training is vigorous.20 lbs is not that overweight, funny coming from some one like me who is a little underweight but not much,.if you want to lose weight cut the calories and maybe join a gym if you can afford to.or take a brisk walk.the gym will have an added benefit not only getting you into shape but making it easier to train you.good for you for wanting to fight for our country.i admire you.good luck.

Depends on your physical fitness. If it just muscles and they see that you are able enough to pass boot camp it should work. Nevertheless you should try to loose a few pounds before applying.

recruiters would love to help you with that! Just ask them if they could suggest a diet exercise regamine for you and usually just 20 lbs will come off fast. maybe a month or so.

If you pass the physical examination and screening then yes. Don't worry, it will all go away during basic training.
