Does anyone else litterbox train their toy breed? If so, what kind of litter do you use. I presently use the pine wood pellets, but the puppy makes a mess of them sometimes. I've heard of using clumping cat litter, but wondered if it's safe. TIA>

She was litter trained just fine. I just have the problem of her stepping out of the box and taking some litter with her across the floor.

You can put a puppy pad in there.

I have used the clumping cat litter and it worked fine. It is actually a lot less messy than trying to use the alternative types of litter. I am not sure if you have tried this or not, but I have used a litter pan instead of a litter box. Sometimes, when the toy breeds are very little, it is difficult for them to step over the litter box edges. Litter pans, however, are lower to the ground and maybe more appropriate for these small breeds. You can find them at your local pet store.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMPpR

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!! I did this with my chihuahua when she was a pup and have regretted it ever since. Once they mess up the litter they will start peeing on the carpet, floor or anywhere they want to. Once they get older they will still think it's OK to do it anywhere they want.

I have a 5lb. chi and she uses puppy pads. Keep an eye on your pup & when they start to do their mess put them on the pad or clean up their mess with the pad and let them smell of it. This will put their on odor on the pad. It took just once for my pup after I cleaned up her pee with the pad and had her to smell it. She was only 5 wks old and 1lb at the time.
