I got this gorgeous pup from the pound & they thought it was German Shepherd & Chow. But he's gotten a bit older and the Kees markings have developed on him plus the Kees fur style AND the vet says he sees a lot of schnauzer in him. I have never had either type of dog and am curious how he will look and behave when an adult. He is 11 weeks now.

You're in for a treat. I had a Kees for 15yrs. Great dog!! Loyal, protective, loves kids, gentle, easy to train, smart. Their fur is beautiful & they really don't shed that much if you brush them once a week. They don't like to be left alone, at all. Never had a schnauzer but mix a terrier blood with northern blood & I'd imagine that you'll get one strong, stubborn, playful, protective pooch. Sounds like fun !!!

Both are active, bouncy, barky breeds. Schnauzers can be dog and people aggressive, while Kees can be on the nervous side. I'd recommend you start training and socializing him right away!

The best (and cheapest) way is to take your own dog to training classes at your local AKC recognized obedience club. http://www.akc.org/clubs/search/index.cfm?action=obed&display=on

We have a beagle/schnauzer mix and she is the greatest dog! Schnauzers are really smart, and enjoy people, so they make great pets! never had a Keeshound so can't comment on that, but if the Schnauzer part is dominant in personality and behavior you will have a great dog!
