First, they should take out her tonsils ASAP. The same thing happenned to me when I was 8 and they took mine out.

Second, have her drink other clear fluids like gatorade or other rehydration drinks to keep her hydrated.

Good luck!

I am 36 years old and have had many sore throats all of my life. I have crater like holes in my tonsils and they stay swollen alot. I have allergies and sinus infections frequently. I have a new dr and she is the only one that has ever even kept check on them for me and has now told me I may have to have my tonsils removed. It is very dangerous to have tonsils removed as an adult. My brother just had to have his removed at age of 32 and had serious complications. You need to find a good dr --like allergy specialist ear nose and throat and see if it would be a good idea to have her tonsils removed now. It is not dangerous as child, and she will have so many less problems growing up. I wish many times that someone would have told my parents this and maybe I wouldn't have all of the throat/tonsil probs today. My brother, I'm sure feels the same way. He kept strep constantly until his were removed and now he never has sore throats. Good luck..........................

Tonsilectomy may be preferred to continued sore throats. The doctor can schedule a surgery to have them removed.

Regarding the water issue, switch to a water that she finds less distasteful (try distilled - some say it has no taste whatsoever), then explain to her why learning to tolerate water now will help her throughout her entire life. 64 ounces a day/2 liters.

If she does not want to drink because of her sore throat that is one thing, but not eating/drinking something that is not only healthy (barring impurities) but necessary to life, is something my mother would not have tolerated in her daughter.

Please advise her from me, that if she develops healthy habits at 12, she won't have to eat a lot of foods that really don't taste good but are good for you by the time she is 42 and beyond.

I had the same problem as a child, I had my tonsils removed. The only sore throat I get now is from my sinuses draining. You may want to talk to her pediatrician about a tonsillectomy.

Why don't you have them taken out? I know doctors don't do tonsillectomies unless they are causing a lot of problems, but it certainly sounds like your daughter's case warrants consideration of that option. If your doctor hasn't brought up that option yet, I'd encourage you to discuss it with him.

My husband had his tonsils removed at age 30 and it was awful .It would be in her best health to have them removed now .many reasons when you are older its much harder one one to heal ,and with it being as bad as it is ,you risk major infection in her little body ,Please have the dr to remove them now while she is young .because she will always have this problem ,until you do have them removed .Please dont wait ,take her soon im sure she is misurable ,and it hurts when your tonsils are inflamed .i will be praying for her .
