We are thinking about driving through a few different states with our golden retriever this fall. I was wondering if there are any papers or anything we should bring? Thanks!!!

My dogs and I travel across different states all of the time on my way to and from dog shows (just got back from a 3-day show in Western WA state yesterday, in fact). You don't need any health/vaccination paperwork to travel by car from state to state -- only if you intend to cross the border into Canada or Mexico.

Have fun!

I don't believe that any documentation is required, but it really is a good idea to take along the rabies certificate plus a vet's record noting all of the shots that have been given to the dog. If there is an accident, or the dog becomes ill during travel any available vet would be able to treat the dog without guessing about inoculations.

You need to keep his rabies and city license tags on his collar. You can take the rabies certificate from your vet with you. If you don't already have one, get an ID tag for him with his name, your name, address and phone number.

Have fun!

Keeping vet records is priority.

I would also suggest microchipping before leaving the state. Rescues do it cheaper than vets.

I think you would need his rabies vaccination paperwork. Other than that- I don't know.
