Some reflections on your question.
Venus, the Roman Goddess of Love, was married to the misshapen Vulcan, the blacksmith of the gods, but she deceived him with Mars, the God of War, and in revenge Vulcan trapped them in a net so cunningly woven that they missed seeing it and stumbled in. Vulcan embarrassed them before all the other gods and thereby got his revenge.
The action of Homer's "Iliad" begins when Paris , the Trojan prince, awards the prize of beauty to Aphrodite, the Greek counterpart of Venus, who thereupon gives him the miraculously beautiful Helen, who is already married. The Greeks then undertake the long siege of Troy. There is so much suffering that neither Love nor War may be said to win.
I am sure you have heard the saying that all is fair in love and war.
For myself I think that love in the broad sense (not just erotic love but love of neighbor, love of humanity) is deeper and more powerful than strife and war.

****, that already went down. Its in the Canterbury Tales. Two knights fought over a woman. On the day of the duel, one prayed tom the God of War, and the other to the God of Love (I think) any-who, the one one who won the fight prayed to War, but the lady chose the man who lost. The God of War wins wars, the God of Love wins what wars are fought over: the things we love! So in just a fight, War wins wars, but in conflicts Love is always victorious!

Why would one in the same being fight with himself. God of War and God of Love are human ways of perceiving God. The early Jews perceived God as a God of War because of their own war-like nature. Modern views of God have shifted to a truer perception of the Loving God.

There is only one God. He is the God of all things - love and war.
