I've heard people say that certain commands made by god are outdated and don't apply to us anymore, or that the matters of civic law apply only to Israelites and things like that. Well my question is when commands like "Woman not being able to speak in church," and "not wearing clothes made of two kinds of fabric," would be considered stupid or outdated, why are so many people adamant about god hating homosexuality when its addressed within the same book or even chapter as some of these laws that don't apply to us? Who decides what laws are to be followed in these modern times? Oh and incase anyone was going to answer me and say that god doesn't hate homosexuality. My good news bible says "No man is to have sexual relations with another man; god hates that." -Leviticus 18:22 so that is my basis for it.

swordsman: What possible reason could you have for lumping homosexuality in with murder and rape?

practical wizard: where does it say jesus being crucified allowed woman to speak in church but didn't allow men to have sex?

carol m: If you would have read my question completely without forming an opinion first you wouldn't be telling me to read for myself that god hates homosexuality when in my question I said my bibles says god hates it. My actual question is why are certain ones still considered so bad and some not followed, I assume you yourself don't follow every law god laid out. Like if your a woman and your addressing religious matters to the public like you are doing now for instance.

the_shepherd...: thanks for your answer, I definitely see your point about reasons why god would still not approve of gays, but I'm afraid what I was addressing about woman speaking in church wasn't about people chattering, it was about god saying woman could not speak or ask any questions in church but must wait until they get home and then ask their husbands. that seems absurd and is quite different from saying people in general shouldn't chatter and interrupt god's word.

Certain things are just wrong no matter what period in history you look at. i.e. murder and rape. Others are based on cultural norms at a certain time.

there is a difference between laws, ordinances, and .statutes.

we know the 10 commandmrnts are still in effect, unless you get a liberal for a judge.

there are other laws, such as the food laws, laws of gravity, etc., because our bodies have not changed just because JESUS was crucified.

ordinances are those things nailed to the cross when CHRIST was crucified, i.e. we do not sacrifice animals anymore. there is a list somrwhere in new testiment.

CHRISTIANS should not hate or judge anyone. they are only supposed to spread the WORD OF GOD and let it fall where it may.

there is a pratical reason for GOD hating homosexuality. 1. we were put on this earth to replenish it. 2. because all the host of heaven must be born into this world age before it can end! 3. there is no way to produce offspring without a male and female unless you are some kind of mutation.

leviticus 17 contains the food laws. they haven't changed. that sheet thing in the new testiment is about gentiles. somewhere it then says foods made to be eaten or something. i've been sick about 4 years, so the exact scriptures have slipped.

the women thing also includes men not chattering in church. our pastor would remove anyone that chattered so GOD'S word could not be heard!

however, none can live without sinning. the dif now is, we can repent daily, whereas, in old testiment. i think you only received attonement once a year when the priest went into the holy of holies.

a lot of these old testiment things had practical reasons, i. e. keeping meat so it won't make you sick, and foreshadowing of CHRIST as a blood sacrifice for our sins, etc.

this url is not just reading. you can listen to actual programs, and order catalogs on all these subjects. check it out!

To make a long story short, the scriptures have been wrongly divided and many 'Christians' are apparently not catching it. (2 Tim. 2:15).
Part of the problem is that scriptural Christianity and the lives of people here in America tend to differ. At the root of it, Christianity holds that Christ is superior to man; not equal to man (man is a false god; Gen. 3). There is a man-made old testament of Genesis-Malachi, and the scriptural old testament; i.e. the law of Moses. (Per scripture, the old testament was done away; Hebrews. The text from Leviticus is part of teh donme away law). The Jews were told to have two or more witnesses (about three times Deut. 10-20), and the Christians were given the same command (Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor. 13:1). When this concept is applied, one finds the 'old testament' is the law of Moses. My 'two or more witnesses' for that assertion include Joshua (Joshua 8:31), David (2 Kings 2:3), Solomon (1 Kings 8:9), Nehemiah (Nehemiah 8:1), Daniel (Daniel 9:11-13), Malachi (Malachi 4:4)i, Jesus (Matt. 19:7-9), God the Father (Matt. 17; in effect he backs up whatever Jesus his Son says), and the apostle Paul. (The law is referred to as the old testament (KJV), many other English versions translate it as old covenant in 2 Cor. 3:13-14). The law of Moses starts in Exodus 20. Perhaps this is part of why the beast in Revelation 17 is the USA, and the harlot Babylon is the leadership of the USA. (See what happens to the beast and harlot in Revelation 18).
God apparently had me think of this text recently; Acts 18:24-28 (please read) regarding Priscilla, Aquilla, and Apollos. Apparently, Apollos was eager to grow. I hope many Christians in this country presently are in the Apollos category.

Those that saying that the Law of God is outdated are wrong. The Law is still in force, all of it including the Law of sacrifice. See anyone kill a lamb and offer it as an offering lately? What that means is we have ALL sinned against God and fallen short of His requirements.. That shows us how much we need Jesus...Jim

Christians have long centuries of practice at not only picking and choosing what they want to believe in the bible... they were also, at one time, experts at adding and subtracting whole Christian manuscripts from their "holy book."

I like to ask Christians why the Levitical laws included in the bible in the first place if they were inconsequential? And historical record is not a good answer since many historical Jewish texts were not included at all.

None of the commandments are outdated. That is the devil messing with your head. God hates homosexuality so much that this is what He says about it...'

Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Does it look to you like God appoves of that behavior to you??

How about reading this for yourself.. Does this look to you like Homosexuality is somthing God approves of? NOT!

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
creation Gen 1:1, Job 38:4, Isa 44:24, Col 1:16, Heb 11:3, Rev 4:11

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
uncleanness Matt 23:27, Rom 6:19, 2nd Cor 6:17, 2nd Cor 12:21, Gal 5:19, Eph 4:19, Eph 5:3, Eph 5:5, Col 3:5, 1st Thess 4:7
bodies 1st Cor 6:18, 1st Thess 4:4

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

We are to conform to the word of God, and not expect God to conform to our sinful ways. God will not place His eyes upon the sin or the sinner. He will not look upon anything that is un cleaned. Cleans yourself through repentance 0f your sins and accept Jesus as your savior, and leave yoursinful lifestyles.

Because they pick and choose what's convenient, and what's not. It's all just a bunch of stories that should be taken as what it is ficticious literature.
