i just asked my doc about this today. i am A+ and my husband is A+ so i figured the baby would be A+ but thats not true we carry two letters like AO OR AA so my baby could be AO or AA or OO. but it will be + not neg. The o is easily explained in your situation but not the -. But most people are wrong about there blood type or the + and -. So I would talk to your parents about it.

Maybe your parents are not really sure of their blood types.

Maybe there is an error in one of the blod types.

Very rarely, a person's blood type changes through addition or suppression of an antigen in infection or malignancy.

So talk to your parents about that discrepancy and maybe have your blood tests redone.

If you are not adopted, one of you might have the above mentioned problem, and will need to talk to a doctor.

You could be O (which is really OO), because your dad is really AO, and your mom is AO or BO, so you got an O from both parents, but you couldn't be a negative unless one of your parents was.

Rh negative is recessive, as is type O blood.

If your father is genetically A/O and +/- is blood type would be A+ but he would have both an O gene and a Rh negative gene to give to you.

Likewise, if your mother is genetically B/O and +/- her blood type would be B+ but she would have both an O gene and an Rh negative gene to give to you.

You simply inherited the genes that didn't show up in your parents because they were masked in them by dominant genes.

Look at the chart linked to Auld Mom post.

It shows that if one parent is A+ and other is B+, offspring being O- is possible.

Don't worry!

What's wrong with it?
A could be AO (Still type A, but carries O as well).
B could be BO (Still type B, but carries O as well).
So the offsprint can be either AB or OO.. sounds prefectly normal.

O- is the blood type that can give blood to anyone. They are considered the Universal donor.

Hmmm. Kids are usually their father's blood type, but maybe they both have o- in their families? I'd look into that a little more. Maybe you are adopted or dad is....(cough)

blarg.. O- means you can mesh with any blood out there. o+ means that you can give blood to any type.

i think thats how it goes. Iam o- too. But neither of my parents are. My husband is though... lol.
