Most doctors I have talked to about Lupus or FM say it's not really an illness but is more mental than anything. I know someone who claims both ailments. She only gets sick when her husband asks her to clean the house or cook dinner or get a job. Otherwise she is fine and goes on lots of vacations and shopping trips. Some nurses refer to this as "daytime television disease" as most victims find out about it on TV and them come down with it shortly after and end up watching daytime TV religiously instead of working or housework.

Fibro, along with MANY others, is a disease that was "created" by doctors that didn't know what else to call it. It has some qualities of other problems yet has a few new symtoms so they just made up a new "disease" to explain it. If you look back there were never any cases before about 10 or 15 years ago.

And sadly there will most likely never be a cure. Why? Because there is no money in cures. Why do you think the last "disease that was cured was polio in the 50's? The Pharmacuticle companies lost millions with that cure. So they now treat the symptoms, not the cause. More money that way.

Yes and No. Lupus patients tend to have FM. FM has alot of Lupus symptoms but may not be Lupus.

I have Lupus and APS and a mess of other problems stemming from them both. My GP thought this was all FM until I saw the rheumatologist...bloodwork and exam said something different...meaning Lupus and APS.

So my suggestion to you is to see a rheumatolgoist. Autoimmune problems tend to run in families so it is very possible that you could have some sort of autoimmune disease going on.

Lupus, fibromyaglia, CFS, and several other disorders share a constellation of symptoms...and are frequently misdiagnosed as each other. As far as science knows right now, what they share in common is a dysfunction of the immune system, such that the body is basically attacking itself.

yes I worked in rheumatology for a few years and we always asked patients if anyone in their family had any rheumatological diseases & those 2 were on the list (therefore possibly related but I don't think even MDs know for sure, just a possibility)

I hope you & mom feel better in the future. Marcella
