Go to stores that have showrooms to get ideas of what likes and dislikes. Also, if you have home builders nearby, usually you can walk through their model homes. I've gotten some really great ideas doing this!

Place your bed sideways against the short wall with lots of pillows(like a couch) and make a functional space at the other end(dresser-computer stand-fish tank-lots of mirrors)
