it's one of my biggest pet peeves.....when I'm standing in line at a grocery store, post office, wherever, and someone stands sooooo close to me, even though there is no need (like, if we are the only people in line). Does this bother you too?

They are afraid that others might cut into the queue. I do that too when I am boarding a bus. Otherwise, people just cut ahead of you.

I try to stand close enough to make it obivious, but enough to if they step back quickly I have some space. BUT I do have a spatial problem when I get in a lunch line at work. I work very hard for six hours and the quicker I get through lunch the more time to rest. I make jokes about how I pratically sit on top of the person's shoulders, but I seriously can't help it, I am hungry. It's only been a problem for me though since the person stepping back (as mentioned above) sometimes brushes my boob.

Yes it bothers me too. Since I carry a purse, I usually step back a little and "accidently" bump the person with my purse. Of course I say "excuse me" and that person backs up. I also turn sideways and act like I'm looking around just to pass time. If I bump into them, they are really standing too close, so I end up standing in line sideways for the remainder of the time. There's nothing like someone standing too close from behind and sneezing. I make sure I keep my personal space open.

I work with people having disabilities and learned that some people, disability or not, don't have a spatial awareness... Some people don't realize that they are 2 cm from joining you in your clothing.
This bothers me too, but I'm very assertive, I say:
" Would you please give me some space... And when I move up could you maintain the space? Thank You."
People usually back up some and snicker. Occasionally I get an ***hole but while they are b****ing they still back away so I still get what I want.

OMG, does it bother me? Seriously, they need to back the **** up! I have had to say things to strangers about standing so close. It makes me uncomfortable and its rude. If I am at the cash register paying for an item, I feel like you're trying to set up to rob me or something when you're all over my shoulder. I hate when people push shopping carts and strollers right up on your heels, if I take a half a step back I will bump right into them! They do it at the damn post office like they're trying to read who you're envelopes are addressed too. People do it whenever you're applying for a job like they're trying to see if your resume is better than theirs. And when I'm filling out a job app, I don't need you reading it like you're trying to memorize my SSN# so you can go open accounts up in my name. It's totally aggravating, sometimes I give people the evil glare and they get the point, others I just have to be rude and get loud. I noticed older people will stand too close up on people as well. I try not to be rude to old folks but damn, just back the **** up, please!

I know what your saying. I actually step on their toes and that seems to take care of it. I stepped on a persons toes twice one time because they actually thought it was an accident the first time !
It's called personal space (a three foot barrier around you ).

Sometimes it bothers me... like when I am using a credit card, or someone keeps ramming their shopping cart into my back. Other than that I don't really think about it too much.
