The fear of God, did you not know that 5000 or so years ago people couldnt explain simple things like Rain, earth quakes etc, so some headcase came along and said it was a God an unearthly being who was punishing those who were being 'Bad'. But eventually people became wiser and realised that these and someone evetually said there is only one God, but if we all love each other then we'll all get on alot better, that man happened to be Moses, then Ishmail then Jesus tried his hand and everybody bored of the Romans decided to believe him

The bible wasn't written in a sitting. It was the product of several lifetimes of work. During the course of it's assembly there were many shifts in the role of religion and the attitudes of Christians. The schism between the older more dire views and those enlightened by the Prophet Jesus is the reason why there are Old and New Testements are broken appart in the bible.

tee_hee_ssh,
Let me help you "get your head around that."
If you pay attention to only the acts of wrath in the Old Testament and never the messages of Judgemet in the New Testament, you will come away with something that you just said.
God is the same, as the claim goes, right?
Look in the Old Testamen again. Look for things God did for those who had faith. And look in the New Testament for those things that Jesus did for the lack of faith, i.e. the judgements he made upon those for a lack of faith. He cursed the fig tree, he wouldn't perform miracles in the sight of doubt, etc.
He is the same.

God didn't change. Even in the Old Testament God was about helping out the poor, healing the sick, performing miracles, etc. And if you don't think Jesus isn't going to war one day then I would challenge you to read the end of the New Testament. Talk about a coming bloodbath! Yikes. God hasn't changed at all.

You know I found the answer to this... from being a parent.
As a parent you have to learn to "let go" of your kids. They make their own choices and create their own results. As long as you interfere your kids will resent you and sometimes hold it against you - even when in your own mind you are helping them.
Only when we take ownership of our own choices can we achieve all that we are capable of. The God of the Old Testament was an overprotective parent who learned the error of his meddling and set the example in the form of his Son.
Now the thing that still bugs me is the fact that most religions look at "worship" as a requirement to please and gain favor with their God. My personal belief is the last thing a Supreme Being needs is a bunch of carbon units singing his praise... that word picture doesn't compute.
Now our pursuit of excellence instead of perfection, making wholesome choices and BEing and enjoying His creation would seem to me to be a great way to show The Dude we are thankful for this opportunity of what we can create in His name.

The sever judgments only came every 1000 years. The old testament covers 4000 years. the New Testament covers about 60 years.

Obviously you have little knowledge of the Bible.
2 Thessalonians 1:6-9 - 6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;
7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

God did not change his mind, We are Gods children, We need nurturing, He,God is our heavenly Father and the bible says he Admonishes us as His children. So sweetie babes, it's we who are ever changing and God has not finished smiting yet.... Plus if you read the bible God says forgive those who wrong you and bless tem lest he stills his hand of vengeance upon them, so we are to keep clean in thought and mind because, 'Vengeance shall be mind saith the Lord.' He still smites.

Jesus is a part of God and his time among us let him experience what it is like to be human. To feel emotions from a human perspective, to feel pain and pleasure, to live life as one of us. That sort of experience will change anything. Plus God always want the best for humanity. Even in the Old Testament God was leading God's followers away from danger and giving them what they need to survive. God never really changed, God just changed how God wanted to lead humanity to salvation.

Before Jesus, God didn't have an actual account of what it is like to be human. (Even though God knows all He knew He never lived as us and couldn't understand why we were so "bad") Not wanting to destroy the world yet another time, God sent Himself in human form. He learn what it was to be human though the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. That's why he went from ruthless to loving. He lived as one of us and understood the hardships of humanity on a first had account.
