I have gone into add/remove programs, selected WMP, then "Next", and after a reconfig the system claims the operation has completed successfully.

BUT when I then try to install WMP 9, I get the message "You already have a more recent version of WMP installed on this computer ..."

Why would u want WMP-9 when you can get a better version WMP-10 or WMP-11? However it should work just make sure you don't already have a Windows Media Player higher then 9 installed. if you do go to "Add & Remove Programs and Window components" and remove the Windows media player conponents.

It's easy. Just uninstall the standard version, then install the newer version, or just make sure you download the upgrade version, not the full version.

in case you could get to "danger-free Mode", then you truthfully can do a equipment fix to a a lot later date than even as the region all started. if not, then you truthfully're doomed to reformat. you could attempt "restoring xp" utilising steps from countless forums contained in the internet, yet i strongly recommend reformatting. it is going to dodge an excellent type of time and frustrations. in case you want documents to be saved, get rid of your HD, deploy it as a non-boot force in yet another computing gadget, and get your documents. experiment it with a good anti virus first or you'll infect that different computing gadget too! do not double click it with out scanning it first or you'd be getting 2 issues. your situation likely has not something to do with media participant 11. this is the virus that were given on your equipment this is probably causing your restarts. get you computing gadget to run usually first (no ? or ! contained in the gadget manager), then deploy media participant 11.
