We are going on a week long vacation in a couple of weeks. Should we wait until we get back from vacation to start potty training her? For a few weeks now, she's been grabbing at her diaper when it's dirty. And she stays dry for longer periods of time now. We've introduced her to the potty already, so she does know what it's for, but I'm afraid to actually try and potty train her right now when we will be going on vacation soon. I think it would be too hard to start now and continue on vacation in a strange place. What do I do? Should I try now, or wait until we get back from vacation? She will be just over 17 months when we get back. Any suggestions would help. Thanks!

Wait. Starting now and then interupting her progress with the vacation will most likely set her back months. Potty training is one of the things that should be done when the stress level is low for the little one. You already knew the right answer to your question so just trust your mommy instincts. I commend you for trying to get the best info possible for your little one.

There are certain windows for potty training. you are in one right now. If you wait until you get back from vacation it could be over, and you will have to wait until she is in another window. I don't think it would be hard to start potty training on vacation. When my friend (like my sister) was little she started potty training on a vacation to disney world and was compleately potty trained after the week was over.

I would continue to introduce her before hand but wait for a full blow potty training effort until after you return. Just because she is showing signs does not necessarily mean shes 100% ready. Your next step should be to move into pull ups and she can go if she is willing but will still have the pull up on if she doesnt make it. Average age is about 2, so she may be partially ready but sometimes potty training can be a longer process. Good luck

It depend what kind of vacation, if it's lot of traveling it would be hard, but then again, you don't wanna miss her signs or make her stop letting you know. I would wait with full potty training - like switching to underpants - untill you get back, but definitely start her now already - put pull ups on her and whenever you go to the restroom, bring her with you and try put her on the toilet - they sell foldable potty seat, you can actually carry it with you all the time in your purse, and some kids are gonna be even more interested in going on the toilet then potty. Just make sure you keep explaining what you are doing and keep asking her to do the same. It might work out good and it could give you good start for when you come back.
And don't worry, she's definitely not too young, it very possible. Those people telling you she's too young doubt it because they did it with their kids tooo late, are jealous and will try to discourage you. My daughter was fully potty trained around 19 mo and everybody was putting me down, like put her back to dipers, she's too young, bla, bla,.... not true, we did it and so will you. Good luck!

It wouldn't hurt to start training her now but maybe just not be so adamant about it until vacation is over.

If she is ready then she will learn quickly but doubtful she would be fully trained in a couple of weeks. Who knows, she may just surprise you and do it. It would be a shame to pass up the opportunity if she is willing and ready. To put it off may be a mistake.

If she is partially trained and you need to put the diapers on her on vacation, you tell her that because of the long trip and the fact that the bedding is someone elses, etc., that you need to make sure she doesn't have any accidents. Make it part of her training to help to "protect" someone elses furniture. That would help with the training but still give the protection of the diaper, just in case.

Good luck.

PLEASE, PLEASE ignore these people who are telling you not to bother with even starting to potty train until she's at least 2. I would wait until after your vacation, because it is intense, but start the day you get back. She is DEFINITELY showing signs of being ready to potty train. I started before my son was even 16 months. Why not train them? Then u don't have to worry about buying diapers!!! Whoever said not to bother until they are 2 clearly isn't a parent and if they are, not a good one!! God bless and good luck!

If you think that she is ready to be potty trainedthen start whenever you are ready. Just be sure to be consistent with going to the potty and give lots of praise when she actually uses the potty.

I would def. wait. When you potty train you have to be on 24/7. I stayed in for two days with my daughter and she was potty trained. I tell i was so sick of saying gotta go pee-pee lol. Your trip wouldn't be as fun if you started her then.

I highly doubt you will able to train a toddler who still does not have full control of her bladder in a couple of weeks. Potty training can take months..don't push it and let her make the call.
