for the past, week or so, my kitty (about 7 weeks old) has done nothing but lay around and wants to be held. the other 2 that i have, same age, are running around and are healthy. shes lost so much weight you can like see her ribs. and now just today she doesnt even want to be held. she wont eat food, and i have warmed milk, cold milk, everything--she just wont eat. she can only go a few steps before she has to rest, her eyes are so sad looking....i dont know what it is or how to get her to eat. its so sad just looking at her. is it possible that she CAN have depression, or should i be worried about distemper?? or could she just possibly eat something bad (they are outside cats)....i just dont know.....

Your cat is sick...you need to get her to the vet today. Call now, and they can likely get her in. Don't give her cow milk...only kitten formula or water. Assuming she hasn't been vaccinated, she could have Feline Leukemia, FIV, any one of the viruses the distemper shot prevents. She could also have a variety of other conditions. If you've got cats that live outside, you need to get them all in for vaccinations and flea/tick preventative asap. Outdoor cats need more vaccinations than indoor cats to stay healthy....and even that's not a guarantee. By them living outside, they are exposed to many dangers. You should really consider bringing them inside if at all possible. Most importantly, call your vet RIGHT NOW and see when they can get her in. She needs diagnosis and treatment, the sooner the better.

I am sure kitties do get depression but this sounds something a little more serious then that. If she doesn't want to be touched and is not eating then I would suspect that something is seriously wrong and I would contact your vet as soon as possible. If they can not take her find an emergency animal clinic but she does need to be seen. Best of luck!

You need to call the vet right away. As another person said she could of contracted FIV, which could be terminal but if you keep up with vaccinations, they can live fairly healthly lives. But my advice is NEVER have outdoor cats, it only brings saddness. We had one once,Kiki, and when he was about 9 (not very old for a cat) he got into a fight with this wild animal. He was fine intially but within a few weeks he died. He was precious to us, so now our other cats are strictly indoor. Save your self the grief and have all your kittens vaccinated and keep them inside where they should be!

Hi Chelsea...your kitten has clear signs that she is very sick--lost weight, no appetite, weakness, weary eye looks. At 7 weeks she very young as well as so vulnerable and without immediate medical treatment she will die. She needs emergency care today. Everyones answer here recognizes this as well and we all would like you to consider getting her help today--PLEASE!

Please also discontinue feeding her milk. Milk for human consumption is harmful for cats--the lactose in milk and milk products produces stomach upset, cramps, and gassiness. Only cats can drink cat milk, which can be found a pet stores.

If her behavior has changed so drastically, call your vet. Something is probably wrong with her. Cats can get depressed, but not eating is a bad thing. Try giving her water instead of milk to drink -- milk is bad for their digestive systems.

I'd take the cat to the vet right away to make sure it's not something physical.
I do think it's possible for an animal to get depressed.
my oldest cat was once. I had another cat that he was very close buddies with who died suddenly. he was obviously very depressed....clung to me all the time when I was home. a couple months later, I got a kitten that he became "daddy" to. they are still best friends.

Your kitten is not just "depressed". ANY change in a cat's behavior for more than a few days (by the time you notice it) is a red flag that something serious is wrong.

Your only option is to have a vet check her over. She is very ill.

i would call a vet, my first kitten was that way, i was feeding her babyfood through a suringe every 2 hours of the day and night until it got to the point where i could do nothing to get this kitten to eat, took her to the vet, and she was born with a terminal illness and jaundice, she unfortunately had to be put to sleep, so if your kitten is not eating or drinking i would make a trip to the vet, she may be very dehydrated

a lot of treats and gentle affection, and leave him on my own even as he would not favor to be round human beings. i extremely wish you'll evaluate conserving him as an indoor-in ordinary words cat to any extent further, because you've already experienced between the various many stuff which could ensue to an outside cat (tom cat Leukemia and tom cat AIDS, getting hit through a automobile, organic predators, poisoning, choking, merciless people..) and also you're purely putting him in possibility back through letting him flow out, even with if he's all healed. it can be a soreness retraining a cat yet they adjust to an indoor-in ordinary words way of existence all precise see you later as you retain at it and are agency about no excursions.

you should get your cat to the vet to make sure there isn't anything medically wrong with her, I do think that cats can get depression, but being that she has lost so much weight that you can see her ribs and she isn't acting normal, she needs to get to a vet and preferable TODAY.
