she's always quivvering(a shaking motion) with her lips. we hav had her for five years, she's a retired racer and is now seven. we treat her like a queen and she loves everyone, but always does that nervous quivvering. i dont know if its because she was treated badly at the track before we got her.

It can be nerves. If they were finished racing her at 2 that could have meant they were already having problems with her on the track. I would contact the rescue you got her from or your local greyhound rescue they will help you. But for the most part I would just love her for being her.
They are always treated badly if they didn't win the race. And even if they do they just get aliitle more time out of pens.

Walkinglady is completely right. Chittering is just a normal grey thing. Some dogs do it more than others, some do it in their sleep, some when they are excited others only when they are hungry. It has nothing to do with nerves or being abused (which to some of the other posters most greys are *not*). I have three greys also, all of whom do it and I foster dogs for my adoption group and almost every grey does this is some degree.

It could just be a twitch from old age. Or maby from happiness. My greyhound used to do almost the same but he always used to show all his teeth and it woul look like he is smiling! it was fun, but he only did it when he was really happy.

My dog wasn't a greyhound, just your every day mutt, and he'd do the same thing. I likened it to an eye twitch or something.
He lived to be 16 so I'd say there's nothing to worry about.

There's nothing wrong with her!! It's just something greyhounds do when they're happy, or sometimes when they're excited. Most people call it chittering and all 3 of mine do it. Does she smile too? People who don't know greys think they're snarling, when in fact, it's common for them to smile.

I would consider that your dog is undergoing a metamorphisis. It's entirely possible that your dog is gradually becoming a dangerous new lycanthrope professional cryptozoologists such as myself dub the werechupacabra. Chupacabras, or "goat suckers", are vampiric fiends intent on sucking the blood from goats and other milk producing creatures. Strange as it sounds, your greyhound may have an obsession for goat blood. I suggest that you pen any goats in your possession lest they be goat sucked by your fiendish new pet.

You might want to check with you vet but I have read that Greyhounds that have raced tend to be mistreated and are nervous.

it may just be a thing of old age, if the vet says there is nothing wrong, then u should just spend as much time loving and playing with her.

Walkinglady and Greyt-mom are right, although I have always called it chattering. My Whippets do it when they are excited or feeling 'friendly' towards another dog.
