http://www.charismamag.com/display.php?id=9221 note the 64% is a statistic for the country in 2000 and is expected to be higher in 2006, and I say it must be 66-67% at this time. to give credence to the 70% statistic for christians is merely making note that most of americans are christian (catholic is christian), and we have a fair amount of asians in this country, sure many are fat, but also many are bhuddist and have a lower rate of obesity.....so wehther you take the 67% and round to 70% or figure in this significant other group and adjust statistic to 70%, you cannot say i am off by that much. No one here dare say less than 50% of christians are overweight as that would be an outright lie. One extra note is that I was told to visit a Menonite church for they apparently are more strict, and i was appalled at seeing the fat male preahcer, his fat wife, and wlel more than half the church with obvious fat problems...i did not return.

"When it comes to the fattest of the fat, Christians weigh more than other religious groups and un-churched people, according to Kenneth Ferraro, a sociologist at the University of Purdue.

His analysis of data from two national surveys, published in the Review of Religious Research, showed that regardless of the religion, religious people tend weigh more than their nonreligious counterparts.

While his discovery applies to all major religions in the United States, American Jews, Muslims and Buddhists on average weigh less than American Christians.

States with a high rate of religious affiliation such as Mississippi, Michigan and Indiana also have higher rates of citizens who are overweight. Conversely, the more secular the state—Massachusetts, Hawaii and Colorado—the less its citizens weigh.

Among Christian denominations, Southern Baptists have the most overweight and obese members"

Overeating and gluttony are not the same thing. The Romans practiced gluttony by stuffing themselves, then going into a room called the vomitory. They would push a peacock feather down their throats to induce vomiting, then go back to do it all over again and again.
Not being religious, I can't say what is or is not a sin. Perhaps being overweight is also a sin, but t any rate it's not the same as gluttony.

According to the most recent CDC(that's Center for Disease Control) survey from 1996-2002 65% of the American population are overweight. So, it would stand to reason that there are just as many overweight, atheists, agnostics, satan worshipers, witches, warlocks, organ grinders, car salesmen, teachers, doctors, lawyers, and Indian chiefs as there are Christians. As to the gluttony question, the 7 Deadly sins that from which you are quoting "gluttony" were originally written down by Pope Gregory the First in the 1600's. He formed a list that he used in his masses because he thought them to be prevalent in the times. There is NO list in the Bible of the "7 Deadly Sins", however the concepts of all of the sins do appear in the Bible in different areas.

first and maximum helpful no individual should be harrassing everybody. fat or gay or the different. What you also want to imagine about as you're making jokes is that some fat human beings ought to triumph over genetic hindrances to get previous the topic matters with weight in words of thyroid ailment and different weight earnings issues. And once you seem at someone overweight you're seeing the end results of the sin of gluttony. What you're seeing are the end results of what you're calling sin. Gluttony in words of greed is a sin. The outcome it would want to have on someone is for them to achieve weight. yet what you spot from a gay is no longer regularly an outcome of something. they're residing a existence-form of what's termed out to be an abomination to the Lord. i do not see any authentic correlation the position a real parallel might want to be made between those diverse sins. both are perverting the organic order of how issues were created through God to be. We ought to devour to live to inform the tale, once you pervert it, and change into selfish you devour more desirable than necessary and the outcome might want to be weight problems. we settle on to have sex to procreate or maybe for exhilaration. when we pervert it that way that is insupportable offense in the eyes of God. I comprehend that you're an atheist yet fairly what sort of race of beings might want to we be if gay became quite the way. How might want to any race of beings procreate in the journey that they were gay. do not supply me the psycho-babble about technologies and stem-cellular learn. because previously we ever were given to date of the information explosion in the previous century or so, Their isn't any organic thanks to procreate with same sex couples of any sort.

I would say it has more to do with the way our foods are prepared today. We are eating meat from animals that have been fed growth hormones to make them bigger. How can we think this doesn't carry over into the end consumer products? Also, overeating is not gluttony. Gluttony is overeating to compulsion. In the Roman era they had vomitoriums where you could go and purge yourself, so you could go back and eat some more. That is gluttony.

Because we are all sinners. Gluttony has always been a popular sin among those with enough money to be able to overeat. The fact that Christians are overweight, or have premature sex, or cheat on their spouses, or buy more things than they need, is evidence of our sinfulness.

thats a loaded question. If more than half the population is overweight, and Christianity is the largest religion, then wouldnt it stand to reason that numerically it would work out that way? It doesnt mean that they are a fat bunch.

Find it in the Bible. "Gluttony" is on a list compiled by MEN, not by God. Christians do not make their bodies idols, like many unbelievers do.

And where did this 70% statistic come from?

Hypocrisy my friend, nothing but hypocrisy.

It is along the same lines as having them tell you your soul needs to be saved, all the while recognizing that it is only God's place to pass judgment.
