Psychologists say that people will die for what they believe in unless they've been given proof that the belief is false. We won't die for something that we know is false. We especially wouldn't go through torture for something that we made up.

Many argue that Jesus was never resurrected, and that His followers only made up the story to start a church (?). Not that the argument isn't flawed in other ways, but I offer up the following:

With this in mind, think about the apostles of Jesus that were willing to die in horrible torturous ways defending their rabbi that they saw resurrected. Would you let someone skin you alive knowing that you'd made something up? Would you let them burn your or crucify you upside down? Would you sit in prison after prison simply because you talked about this event? I don't believe anyone would.

I would die for what believe. I will deny what know to be true. i know that Jesus Christ Lives. I know that he is coming again. His words are eternal and they can not die. Death is just another road we must take. Death is not the end life. And if I get thrown into prison for believing in Jesus Christ I shall still believe and endure to the end.

I'm not sure yet, but didn't Hitler's followers die for whatever he preached? I know they committed horrible crimes some alive won't even admit to committing w/o saying they were not in their right mind. (I AM NOT saying the disciples were brain-washed)
I have read that there were many 'books' written that were not included in the NT, including some others attributed to whoever wrote the book of Mark. Those gospels/books included many Gnostic teachings so what we have in the NT can't be relied on as 100% accurate. (The Jesus Mysteries) So, they may have died for a savior who was preaching/teaching philosophies many Christians/Catholics are not aware of or would deny. Besides, many human sacrifices in other religions were voluntary-they died for what they believed and Copernicus was burned to death for what he believed. Anybody the Crusaders or victims of the Inquisition killed, died believing what they were told was not true...
It's a pity that people will kill or die for an opinion-especially if it turns out not to be true-but don't fool yourself into think Xians are the only martyr's
