My son just started going potty (pee) about a week ago. At home he goes by him self and never has an accident. But this week we have been trying to get him to go at the baby sitters and he refuses. What can I do to make him want to go when he is there?

Maybe have him take something from the bathroom at home that makes him feel more comfortable at the babysitter's house.... like a comfort item... hope it helps!

My son had the same problem. He refused to go in restaurants, other places than home. Onetime we were at my sister's place, and he needed to go. But he refused to get on the toilet and insisted on going home. We put him on the potty, told him that he cannot come off until he went, and if he did go, he gets a big reward. It took over 2 hours and he finally went (he even had a little nap on it). Since then, he's ok with all other places. I'd say you just have to make him go through this at some point. Although 1 week is still early, give it a little more time.

Use a reward system. Our son at the age of 3 got to put a star up on our calendar for everyday that he went potty and had no accidents. Then make the goal attainable. Our son had to get 10 stars and then he got a small treat, (Ex. Pez despenser, etc.) then we bumped it up to 20. It didn't take long at all for him to be accident free. Good Luck!

Perhaps, he's just being shy. The babysitter's house may be a strange place for him, so he does not feel as comfortable as in his own house. He might be affraid. Maybe you should try going to the babysitter's bathroom yourself, and let him note it so he may start thinking that there's nothing to be affraid of. You can take him in with you. Or you can go with him and wait outside the door. I don't know, that's what I'd do. Put yourself in the place of your son and think about it, what would you do or think if you were in his place? What do you think would make you feel better? Perhaps, later on he'll feel free to go by himself.

Hope it helps... God bless!

How different is the evironment at the baby sitters than at your home. Is it loud and noisey, is there equal privacy, Have them try set times to encourage him to use the toilet. It could be he is just having too much fun to go. Have you tried to take her to the bathroom when you are there. And if he is accompanied by a staff member have her him with you. The child may be shy and need your reassurance that it is o.k.

If you have a potty for him I'd suggest taking it along. It may sound gross but it was a life saver for me with my daughter. She wouldn't go on the toilet for the first while so this is what I came up with.
