I read an article that states the Oregon Republican GOP passed a resolution that would deny citizenship to any child born on U.S. soil to any illegal immigran and LEGAL immigrant who is not yet a citizen. First of all I the child is Born on U.S. soil, second of all, I thought it was about ILLEGALS, so why deny to those who are here legaly but not yet citizens such as Permanent Residents? They have their own SSN, they work and pay taxes just like any American, they are here LEGALLY so they are obeying the laws. So why did the GOP of Oregon passed this Resolution?

Obviously some of you don't read between the lines, it is not about the illegals, it is about denying to those who are here legally, hold an appointed SSN, work and pay taxes.

I agree, no birthright citizenship to the children of illegal aliens. Nor, should it be given to children of guest workers or children of foreingers visiting here.
If an immigrant is legal, but not yet a citizen, I would think citizenship would be granted to their child born here prior to the legal immigrant's citizenship being granted.
I think Oregon is trying to protect the USA, by taking action, something the Federal Government refuses to do.

It makes total sense. It just amazes me that it came out of the Peoples Republic of Oregon. I cant stand going to Portland anymore because of all the dirty liberals in that town.
This has been talked about for a long time and originated in TX. Think about it. A woman sneeks over the border, drops a baby and suddenly the child is an American citizen. Logic would tell you that hild should only be a citizen if the mother is here legally. Ill go one step further ans say that the baby shouldnt be a citizen unless one of the parents are.
Go ahead, call me a racist. I am married to a wonderful Latina immigrant. Only, she came here LEGALLY. She didnt swim a river or run through the desert and break the law.

It's not about Oregon, it's about the United States Constitution and the amendments there to. It has never been automatic that a child born in the United States was a legal citizen. They are ELIGIBLE to become citizens. And only then if at least one parent is already a legal citizen. Not green card holder, not work permit holder, they have to be a LEGAL CITIZEN!
The law makers in Oregon are only re-enforcing the federal law.
This is going to happen more and more over the weeks and months to come. The states and federal governments are going to start to enforce laws that are already on the books. They just haven't been enforced in the past. This is changing all over the country. They are giving the laws and lawmen teeth.
The illegal immigrants that protested to gain attention to their cause have got the peoples attention now. Unfortunately it's not the reaction or attention they thought it would be. I do not envy them. They are in for a rude awakening.

If I am pregnant and I go on vacation to France and happen to give birth there does that mean that my child should be a citizen of France? I am in the country legally.
Anyway, some new things have been brought to my attention involving illegal immigration and I don't like what I am seeing...
Does anyone realize that when immigrants were coming here (such as my great grandparents and so on) that they were rec'ing health checks upon arrival in Ellis Island? People coming into our country illegally aren't rec'ing these health checks and as a result diseases that had been reduced to almost nothing in the U.S. are again on the rise.
I am just saying that all of these people who want the illegals to remain in the U.S. are not thinking of the real consequences here. They automatically assume that one is racist when they say the illegals should go home.

That is because parents who are illegal aliens are having children for the purpose of using them as a reason to stay here.
Are you sure you read the proposal correctly? If someone is here on green card, such person is a permanent resident, NOT a citizen. He/she is a person who has been granted to live in the US forever but the person is still a citizen of another country.
A person who was a citizen of other country, but became US citizen is called "Naturalized citizens" to differentiate from "Bonafide Citizens" which is a person who were born here.
Citizenship is a federal level privledge. I doubt any state level law will have any bearing....

Notice how criminals ignore and distort the intent to the laws? Authors and supporters of the 14 th_ Amendment made it clear it did not cover foreign born nationals in America. So by the intent of the law, just being born on American soil is not enough to establish citizenship. It was written to accommodate American born blacks, not Criminal Illegal Invaders!

I think that is inaccurate. I saw an article saying it would be restricted to children of citizens or 'legal residents'. However, it is just a resolution and doesn't have the force of law, even if it does pass.

I have thought about things like this over and over. It is crazy. The U.S is a melting pot of people from all over the world. And now they are letting these peolpe work there A** of in the factorys and stuff, paying takes and saying get out we dont want you, dont have you children here just leave. Does anyone really understand what would happen if they all did go back. The U.S needs them more than they let on.
**** ok what if your mom was in another country when you were born (just say China), ok she gives birth to you in China, you were not born on US soil so your not a US citizen now. These children do not have dual citizenship they are born here and are a part of our country, and just because someone comes here illegally and has a child it does not mean that they can stay.

Wow, I hadn't heard of that. I agree with you. I can remember learning when I was just a kid that if a child was born on American soil that baby was an American citizen. It would be a shame if that was changed. But at the same time it's sad that people are taking advantage of that law to try to get themselves to stay in the country, I think it's wrong to sneak across the border and have a baby just so you can stay.

Because they all need to go. Why does someone get citizenship just because of where they are born. There parents status should be given so if they are legal, illegal, or from mars that is what the child should also be.
