My little dog likes to lick my big dogs ears and my mom says that a dog can die, if the little dog has bacteria on his tongue and licks the big dogs ears by pushing bacteria into the brain. Has anyone ever heard this to be true?

It's not true. You should get the big dog to the vet though to have his ears checked...there could be an infection causing the little one to lick them, or being caused by the moisture he's putting in there.

This is not true. I worked at an animal hospital for years and have never heard of such a thing. The absolute worst thing that could happen is that the dog who is getting it's ears licked MIGHT get an ear infection but even THAT is far fetched. Dogs clean themselves with their saliva. Wolves in the wild clean each other all the time. It's a sign of acceptance. Tell your mother not to worry about this at all.

Wow - that is amazingly untrue. Does your mom think that there is a hole in each ear that goes right to the brain? Dogs have bacteria all over them including their tongue They lick the filthiest things possible and roll in all kinds of messes but they seem to stay healthy. Ear licking is the least of any dog's worries.

I have never heard of that before. I have a cat that licks my dogs ears, and cleans my dog everyday and this has been going on for at least 6 years now, and my dog is fine, and clean. lol Now from what everyone says a dogs mouth is cleaner then a cats mouth, so if my dog is ok with a cat cleaning her ears, I'm sure that it would be fine if a dog cleaned another dogs ears. Good luck

No. However your big dog could get an ear infection from the licking. My German Shepherd loves to have her ears licked by my border collie but tends to always have an irritation afterwards. I am always visiting the vets to get ear drops so I have stopped my border collie licking her ears because of the expense.

That is the silliest thing I have ever heard. It can cause added debris and possibly some additional moisture in the inner ear which could cause discomfort, but I don't think your dog can die.
